Sony Xperia Z

It is really a stunning phone, however there are a few niggles.
The external speaker is terrible, with or without the enhancement switched on.really low and crackly.
Signal quality is poor. Had a galaxy s3 and never had an issue. My phone is 90% of the time on Edge, as opposed to the opposite with the S3.
Voice quality is very soft, very hard to hear even with volume up all the way.

Almost regret buying, maybe should have waited for S4.

First of all because of the waterproofing the external speaker is not amazingly good - but it is not that bad though and I have not experienced the crackling and whatnot. My signal bar is 90% of the time at either 3 or 4 bars and most of the time it is on LTE or H+.....only time I get edge is when I set it to GSM only

I'm very happy with the Z....not a perfect phone but perfect for me :P

Only issue for me is the average quality of the camera....but apparently that will be sorted out on future updates.

The Xperia Z is just too big and blocky to hold comfortable in your hand.

Played with one at a MTN shop & found it extremely uncomfortable to hold in my hand.

Sorry Sony, but what were you thinking?

People want bigger phones so Sony made one. Maybe the Xperia V is more your style.

Must say, I'm very impressed by how hard Sony are marketing the Xperia Z here, it feels like I see that nostalgic Sony ad in every single ad break of what ever I'm watching. I had a bad experience with Sony/SE when I had the Xperia X10, so the marketing was not enough to get me away from Samsung, but it's really left an impression.

My issue with Sony is their two flagships a year approach which has left Xperia S users waiting forever for JB, I worry that the Z will go through the same crap as there is already a lot of hype around the upcoming 'One Sony' which will apparently be loaded with the manufacturers best hardware, from 5inch Sharp IGZO display with Trimunilos tech, a Sony Walkman S-Master digital Amplifier, Snapdragon 800 CPU, IR Blaster, 2700mAh battery, to a Carl Zeiss lense possibly 16MP camera etc... This means the Z maybe totally outdated by 2nd half of this year :/

I wants!!!!

You cant judge a phone by only holding it for a few minutes.....

For me it feels very comfortable and the big size is something I got used to pretty quick, as in a day or two.

But to each his own :)

For me it's different - either it just feels right from the start, or it's not gonna work for me.

And especially if I'm on the phone for a few minutes, I don't want my hand to go into a spasm.

Sorry, but not impressed.

Bottom line ... Sony has to be taken serious going forward. They are the one company that can make devices like Apple do. They have the same design philosophies. The Z is but the start. I expect some amazing devices to come from them.

I've got an Xperia P it's only 8 months old and pretty much forgotten by Sony, should've expected after my x10 also being neglected. So yeah pretty and different from others but updates are slow

Sony has been releasing quite a lot of updates this year so far for various devices such as the T, V, U, Z, ZL, Go and all their variants....I say Sony is putting in some real effort this year and hopefully things will start going better and updates will be released on time....they are just trying to catch up to the rest of the competitors and when they do...I believe Sony will be a serious and fierce contender for a position in the top 3 manufactures and will be a true trend setter in terms of design.

Is there any chance that the Xperia ZL will be making it over here in the next few months?

Nope, unfortunately not according to Sony Mobile SA's facebook page....it is a variant of the Z which is not compatible on our networks or something like that.

Got my Xperia Z a while back, and have been very impressed since. Does not NEARLY give me the battery life "as shown on TV", but fiddling around with the phone the entire day also does not help battery life!

Apart from having to be careful with battery usage, the only other glitch I experienced was two instances where I got a MM#6 error where the phone is thrown off the network. Can be fixed with a quick restart, but it is something I have never experienced before. But I guess with Vodacom anything is possible...

The size is something to get used to, but that happens fairly quickly.

What does irritate me TREMENDOUSLY, is that I cannot seem to find any accessories for the phone. I can probably do without a cover, but I would really like a charging dock. Sony says the mobile operators are responsible for distributing accessories, but Vodacom has still not answered my question about when it will hit stores. One would thing anyone with at least one brain cell will release the phone AND make sure the accessories are available??

Yeah some accessories would be awesome...charging dock and wireless speakers. On the sony fb page they said they are busy trying to get service providers to stock more accessories for their phones....i just hope it does happen and also in the near future.

I also dont get my stamina mode on the advertised times but still get some pretty decent usage. Highest standby time according to my stamina mode was 6 days and some hours but nowadays I usually get 2 days and 5-15 hours depending on usage....would say Im a moderate user

I'm absolutely loving this phone regardless of the few minor flaws

Have you activated "stamina" mode in the settings... basically allows you to chose which applications run when in standby mode, boost battery quiet significantly.

On the accessory side we have covers available... the docks unfortunately not

Anybody experiencing issues receiving incoming calls ?

I have tried calling my SO and I get an immediate network error. I put that down to 8ta's network as I have just ported. But my mate has the Z as well and he told me he has the same issue. I tried calling him and I got the same error. When he tried calling me, it went through. I called other numbers and all of those went through, it was just calls to the Xperia Z phones that were issues.

Same issues with my P, no cases, covers or replacement screen protectors, so my screen is nicely scratched :-(.

Yay the new firmware update is finally available here is SA, busy updating now :D

update my Xperia Z, still android 4.1.2 but got a new firmware xxx1.1.234. The most obvious improvement is the screen as it it very noticeably sharper and the display can now be calibrated with the White Balance setting which was included in the update. The update also provided for some battery life and performance enhancements. Camera software is also improved and photos look much much better now compared to before the update.

This is the second update I have received since I got my phone early in April....if Sony continues with this trend it will be awesome and definitely a step in the right direction for them.

At first I couldnt get the update when I checked for updates via PC companion. Then after a few days after the release of the update, it showed there is an update available for my device. However, when I tried to update it kept on failing for some reason that I'm not aware of. I downloaded SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) and connected my phone and downloaded the update...no hassles!!

Oh yeah the update was 732MB....
