This isn't Sony's first 810 device. I'm sure they've learned from the Z3+.

I was also thinking that though. The Z5 and Z5 Compact may have been better off with 808.

Unfortunately though some people care more about specs that usability.

No one has done 1080P with an 808 yet. Paired with a large battery it would be a fantastic device. I would have killed for that combination a in a nice 5" form factor a few months ago. It sucks so much that Sony didn't go that route. It would make a superb 2nd tier phone that could actually outshine the flagships.

If the G4 has proven anything it's that people don't care (or are easily swayed by shiny things) otherwise everyone would have an M9.

Skip for me. Happy with my Z3 and will upgrade once the 820 chips are used.

Huh? I thought cellphones already did that...
Are you tell me that they've been avoiding overheating without doing that all this time?

Other devices running the 810 (HTC M9 for example) throttle CPU performance once it hits a certain temperature, crippling the SoC over a period of time.

Seems Sony has done some serious thermal dissipation in the Z5, which means there will hopefully be no performance degradation when the device inevitably heats up.

Well yes, throttling is the next step AFTER the heat pipes and thermal paste have failed you....not before

There are no heat pipes in the M9 or any other 810 devices. Sony is the first to introduce direct passive cooling on the 810.

:erm: Thermal throttling.
But but but but....seriously?...thermal throttling should be a last resort after other cooling methods have failed, not the first thing you do

In that case what Sony did was a freaking no-brainer then

A luxury that Sony totally had....

But they got it right this time - as you said, they did the obvious.

I still feel the 810 isn't powerful enough to power a 4K display without lag. Lets wait and see...

Agreed on the power VS 4K. I don't see that being enough, then again I don't notice that much lag on the G4 which has weaker GPU at 2K.

After playing Lara Croft GO for an extended period of time, I notice frame capping on my S6 after 20min or so. Clearly thermal throttling happening - this on the Exynos 7420. I can only imagine it's worse on the 810.

It'd be interesting to see how much of a difference Sony's heat dissipation makes in comparison.

The G4 is 808 just for reference. Biggest weakness is the weaker GPU, the rest is still quite top tier. And it doesn't overheat that much.
