Hi, I just bought myself a set of Razer Mako 2.1 sound system, I dunno if I need to get myself a sound card for those speakers, is it worth it(i use Intel DX58SO mobo)??

please help out...:)

Imo onboard sound is more than enough for average users and by the looks of your spreaker setup you seem like a very average pc user.;)

They are good speakers, but with the Logitech Z5500 only R800 or so more, I'd have definitely saved a bit longer!

Must say that on new mainboards the onboard sound is really good. For most people to upgrade your looking at least R700 (the budget cards like Creative Audigy Value are just not that impressive).

Going for good speakers with onboard is far better than having a top end card and crappy speakers.

Very true. Crap speakers and good sound is useless. Good speakers and crap source is useless too. There is however something to be said for a good soundcard with decent audio grade caps, good DACs and opamps. If you even want to do better, get an external amp and feed it optical, but those are usually limited to stereo sound and not multi-channel audio.

Pity the Logitech Z-Cinema 2.1 set was discontinued... Those look amazing judging from YouTube vids. Good mid range.

Although it does say supplier out of stock, so maybe it's recently been disc and take 2 just hasnt updated their page.

3.5k for 2.1 system... bit of an ouch don't you think considering the other systems around that price.

As far as sound card.. running z5500 also on onboard and no problems at all

You know your stuff. Best sound card I've ever played with was the Extigy 2.0 a few years back. What a difference. Tempted to get myself one of these and plug it into my Marantz K.I. Sig Amp with my Warfedales (had to get rid of the sub as we stay in a flat  )

Those Warfedales are letting you down :p

If budget is an issue, then a onboard sound solution is fine for music and movies. But if you have R1,000+ to spare, a decent soundcard is a must for gaming, IMO. Onboard sound just isn't able to produce the goods for gaming

Might not be discontinued but they definitely seem to not be sold in SA any more. :( Was kinda saving for them.
