WTF is it with SA car programs like Car Torque.

They're almost bad enough to actually take someones love of motor vehicles away from them. They're so damn boring and everything is said in this annoying monotone, and they always are doing daft stories or reviewing boring k@k cars.

Yeah we should come up with our own show :D

We sign a deal with Zwartkops raceway, and every week promise a performance review of at least one performance car (or even better a head to head now and then) with laps around the track. And special guest appearances by Jezza!

I happened to switch on once, when they (Car Torque) got hold of a Bentley. The guy they got to review it was the most boring pratt ever, sitting with his hands on his lap saying 'wow very nice' while the Bentley guy took him for a drive. Like wtf

Special guest appearances by the entire Top Gear crew demmit :D

I honestly don't care for a video review of the latest Chevy Spark. I know its a cheap crap car, I don't need to watch TV to know that. I want to know what the new Skyline, etc etc etc is like to drive.

Agree with you... that show is getting from bad to worse...
Remember that Drive Time show with that Alan guy....?
that was boring too... if i remember correctly... :o

That Dave Bullard is probably the worst car journalist, barely edging out Hendrik Verwoerd and his "engels".
I rather enjoy that RPM car show on Supersport. Those guys know a bit about cars and each make/model's history and aren't afraid to tell you a car is kuk, especially the young presenter dude (can't remember is name now).

Yeah. Jeremy Clarkson FTW! I'll stick too BBC Prime thanks.

RPM tries to be exciting, but they fail oh so badly.

Maybe some1 could license the UK TopGear for SA? But I hope the presenters know something about cars AND have a sense of humour. And the various car makers should come to the party and make available their performance cars.

And one thing I noticed, TopGear spends a lot on production, even 5th Gear can't compare.

His name is Spike IIRC.

I think the problem is that SA car shows are to 'scared' to be rude to a car. Sure, the slam stuff like Tata and Mahindra, but they'll simply have no bad words for the big players in SA, like Toyota/VW/Ford/etc.

Perhaps they are afraid that they'll never get something to test from the manufacturers again...

Lol! This thread is exactly what i was feeling yesterday while i was watching car torque between the cricket yesterday. It was pretty dire. The insert on the disabled drivers was very interesting, i thought, but the way it was handled just made it so boring and lame
. As was the rest of the show.

The solution: Find three hot girls and get them to talk about the cars while a racing driver test drives the new vehicles. I don't care if you're talking about the most boring TATA, I'll watch that.

"Apparently you've got nothing better to do than watch our sh1tty TV shows."

Jeremy Clarkson, referring to the popularity of Top Gear in South Africa

Apparently he's never watched a South African car TV show.

Not just boring, it's like they give a spec sheet for a 5th grader and ask him to read it to the mic...

Ignition GT on channel 189 is not half bad by SA standards. And Ciro from Cars.co.za YT channel is great. Informative & entertaining.

Good to hear things have improved nine years after the OP.

Revered motoring journalist Deon Schoeman dies

Legendary South African motoring Journalist, Deon Schoeman passed away on June 17th 2019, after an ongoing battle with cancer. Deon is survived by his wife, Anet and two kids, Adam and Nikka.

Renowned for his insightful contributions to RPM TV and The Daily Maverick in recent years, we at Independent remember Deon most fondly for his on-screen and on-paper editorial antics as the editor of TopCar during the late ‘90s and early 2000s.

Deon also served as President of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists in 1992 and has always played a major role in bringing motoring journalism to the fore in South Africa, with his witty, to the point assessments.
