Bollocks. Not one of all the people that I know who've emigrated are considering returning. Their only regrets are having waited so long before going.

It found that 72% of Old Rhodian expats living in more than 20 overseas countries believe their skills and knowledge would be useful and valuable to South Africa, and 48% say they would be interested in learning more about incentives to relocate back to South Africa.

The majority of these Global South Africans still identify with their home country – 36% say they have strong emotional and cultural attachment and 51% retain affinity and connections;

Yeah, who wouldn't be willing to learn about incentives to move somewhere? And 36% and 51%? Hardly earth shattering numbers.

This seems incredibly sketchy.

I get the feeling they were asked, "Would you return with the right incentive?" Not "Are you considering coming back?"

Friends and family remain the primary way for 81% of offshore Old Rhodians to stay connected to news and developments in South Africa; other important sources include Internet web sites (68%), international media (47%), and social media groups (41%).

And friends and family are probably one of the only reasons these people even have any attachments left to South Africa.

Personally, I'd like to look at the figures of the total amount of South Africans emigrating (read: gone fore more than two-years) compared to the number returning (before and after two years) to gauge the "eagerness" folk have to return...

Yep, and you should also exclude those who have to return because they were unable to find employment etc. (they aren't returning voluntarily).
 
The headline has no relation to the article contents. 90% of people overseas are happy <> "South African expats eager to come back: study".

You're just about 100% correct.
We've moved to Brisbane about 18 months ago, and would never want to live in SA again. Period! Once you've lived in a country where life is valued, and violent crime is nearly non existing, one tends to not want to be exposed to it again!

All the expats I know over here feel the same. Of the 20 odd families I've met, none will return. And while I know its a relatively small amount , I reckon its safe to assume we are not the only ones feeling this way.

So yeah, I call this article bull***** myself.
 
The way I read it 30 odd percent will come back depending on the incentives on offer. When I saw the headline I was under the impression that they 'all' want to come back.

In my opinion that 30 odd percent is nothing as about double that will leave here at the drop of a hat.
 
Every country had its faults.
Expats that gobs it easy to mingle in a new society will enjoy it more than the bitter others always longing for beer and biltong.
The ones I know overseas love it there, bit because they hate SA or the government or the crime, because they enjoy the experience of living in a another country. Nothing wrong with that. Many foreigners love SA and have made it their home not because they hate the country or the politics they from.

If I moved to a new country I'd be spending time on web sites related to that country. Not come back to a SA web site. Why would you?
