Can't think of any others and no text books weren't free in those days. You had to buy all stationary, it only got free in my days but my brothers and older cousins had to buy everything. Even in the early 90s government only supplied some stationary free the rest you had to get for yourself.

That might explain the non burning of schools - as it regularly happens in the "New South Africa".

The department of education's only criteria by which they measure their success is the pass rate. When the pass rate looks bad the quick fix is just to drop the standers.
It isn't even mediocre anymore we have hit rock bottom and there's still school with 0% pass rates

Text books were never free.

During my high school, we were not even allowed to have Higher Grade Maths and Science Text books. There was also a state of emergency preventing any study groups and people gathering beyond 6pm. Thank God to William Smith I was glued onto my TV to learn Maths and Physics.

I'm not sure what this is about, maybe related to the "Six schools in court to defend their right to follow Christian religion" thread.

I am pretty sure that those 6 schools math wise will be in the top 1% of SA. Why you may ask. Because they have things many schools in SA lack - discipline, dedicated teachers, dedicated parents, etc.

I'd forgotten Zululand too - so if you stretch some definitions you can arrive at about 10 "non white" universities. Don't Rhodes qualifies though and I'm not sure about Westville's history not sure it was established as an indian varsity or not.
