Just this morning, on the N1 in rain, taxi decides it's a good idea to drop off a passenger on the emergency lane.

The chop then cuts me off..

Complete lawlessness.
 
Been rear-ended 3 times in 18 months because I stop at stop streets and red traffic lights

The worst was Wednesday a week ago, the light turned red and the car behind swung out to go past me. He in turn collided with a car coming in the opposite direction

Both cars swerved and hit my car. The driver in the car behind climbed out with a gun in his hand, shouting and swearing

R104000 damage to my car, front door, wing and bumper. Parts have to come from Japan. Have a loan car in the meantime

After being in two accidents in my 20s, no fault of my own, I realised the other drivers are out to get me (just joking) but that mindset help me navigate driving through every province in SA.

Also both accidents happened at night, and I was the sober driver. So I also avoid wherever possible driving at night.

These people are very busy and important and have no requirement for the norms, system, laws and good manners which have been developed and perfected over the last 150 years.
 
Actually got a good video on why things are the way they are.
There was a thread here where the oke said his light just turned green, another vehicle skipped a red light and drove in to him.
Then a wild Goofy appeared:

How all the bad drivers aren't dead is beyond my understanding. Like is there a special school for this?
 
By the way, if Final Destination 2 taught me anything, this person had it coming so we can take them off the stats.

Cos the good drivers see them coming and get the fsck out of their way.

3WA in many ways isn't wrong though, we have 2 opposing driving styles at play in this country and it adds a huge level of unpredictability on the roads

I'm going to flip the script on this...
Its the lack of enforcement. The lack of law on the road.
Do we need more road laws... No, we have enough. Just enforce them.
Look around. How many cars drive over stop streets. How many cars drive over robots. And the list at traffic infringement goes on.
Tell me, how many knows that you can't stop, or even park in a turn? If I remember correctly, that is a R700 fine.
Driving in the emergency lane on the highway, Left side is also R700, double that for the right hand side. Been a while since I saw the listed fines on the ARTO website.
Oh yea... Minibus taxis is the biggest culprit, but they are by far not the only ones.
Sometimes this happens in front of JMPD, and nothing gets done.
This brings reminds me of a stories I heard that JMPD does not have fine books.
What about the normal Police then? Nope, they don't have jurisdiction in traffic infringements.
The legal system in SA is so fractured that you have to get the right type of cop.

In short, The roads are lawless, some people do what they want and get away with it sometimes right in front of traffic enforcement.
It's compounded with mismanagement, corruptions and poor maintenance.
I dare people to go dive like they do in SA in the US.
