That's an excuse used by lazy SAPS members. They have the exact same jurisdiction over traffic. In some towns there are no traffic departments and traffic violations are attended by the SAPS.

You forget that most alcohol related road deaths are drunk pedestrians. That stat is conveniently omitted so lazy authorities don't have to address pedestrian behaviour and can blame traceable people for revenue gathering purposes.

Correct. The average IQ in SA is 68.87. You cannot join the US Army in a combat role with an IQ of 82. But you can drive a links truck or transport passengers on South African roads.

This 100%. I'm the holder of a German driver's licence. It's difficult to get and is a privilege to hold. Too many parking tickets or flipping the bird at another motorist can get it suspended. Get caught crossing a street incorrectly while under the influence of alcohol and the driver's licence goes.

And those cameras are revenue gatherers only, not enforcement. They can't trace the pedestrians, window cleaners or hawkers at intersections.

But these are just distracted examples, lots more with cellphones being distracted (which I think 99% of the population is guilty of).

But you've got to be particularly arrogant, lawless, or drunk to drive wrong-way/ jump traffic lights or stop streets at speed that just irritates. It seems to be most common in countries that have larger wealth divides or poverty and lots of cars, since I think many of the worst offenders seem to be on the continent of South America, Africa and SE Asia if I'm not mistaken?

Although our sidewalks are pretty terrible, so you kind of need to walk in the street. Bizarre considering how many people walk...

south africans are always "drunk driving" even they didn't consume any alcohol before driving.

Would our roads be safer if upon a collision instead of an airbag popping out of the steering wheel it was a ten-inch steel spike? (Passenger still gets an airbag.)
 
Its very easy.
1. You dont need insurance. 70% dont have insurance on the road. You will get your door dented often when parking at a mall and the culprit simply drive away.
2. Jaywalking fines arent enforced. People cross the road and even freeways with no care in the world.
3. Taxis are the biggest mafia organization and dont keep to the rules of the road, 53% of all critical accidents on the roads are due to minibus taxis.

Then there is drunk driving, unroadworthy vehicles and well, those pedestrians.

If you enforce 3rd parthy insurance on all I bet these figures will be approved.
 
I refuse to believe that South Africa is actually more dangerous to drive in than India or Egypt.

The average Egyptian has never seen a traffic light. Let alone knows what their purpose is.

Go to Jordan or Israel, or hell anywhere in the middle east,

Israel even tried going crazy on laws, big fine, if your missing a garbage can in your car,

South Africa is crazy, but far from the worst.
