How ironic that a documentary about political satire and ultimately freedom of speech has been the latest casualty of our public broadcaster SABC. The program that would have been aired 20:30pm last night and have been well publicized in the media was substituted with a rebroadcast of a earlier piece.

Zapiro told the Mail & Guardian Online: "I am angry, but not particularly surprised.

"This confirms yet again how spineless the top echelons of the SABC are. They are totally unbothered by notions of freedom of expression; they don't have much regard for freedom of expression.

The SAUK has deteriorated to such a level that the ANC does not even need to do anything, just show the dog the stick & he'll obey each time without fail. The fact that JZ's shower cartoons would have been aired was brought up this morning on AM Live & of course an SAUK mouth piece was there to deny it had nothing to do with cartoons of Zuma with a dripping shower attached at the top.

BBC is no different. They pull ideologically unfavourable documentaries as well.

Does the overseas networks pull a program the night of the broadcast?? Does not logically make sense after they publicized it fairly well, even the day before. Somebody at SABC woke up very late on this issue and made a quick and wrong call.

The official line is that the long weekend made it hard for the program to be previewed...

From IOL http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=3015&art_id=vn20090415051329695C314308 a response from Evita.

Pieter-Dirk Uys, also known as Tannie Evita, was also interviewed for the programme and made light of what he said was a very serious issue.

"I think this whole thing is wonderful - the SABC does a show on political satire and then cans it. Isn't the whole thing wonderfully satirical?

"All I can say is thank God the SABC are still idiots, because canned show or no canned show, we will continue to say and draw what we want," Uys said.

He said he understood that the show was canned because the SABC was scared of being sued by Zuma, which he felt was a very serious warning sign.

"Zuma will soon be our president, and as the president, his job will be to protect our constitution, yet he is suing a cartoonist, which goes against freedom of expression. Our constitution is in dire danger," Uys added.

Someone should post it on youtube and let the whole world see it

3rd degree and Carte Blache are still out there and they aren't serving the needs of a few narrow minded government mouth pieces.

I was so looking forward to it... very disappointed with SABC as usual...

They must have received a phone call from the ANC offices... saying to take it off... too close to election day

Now if the SABC had independence and BALLS... they would air it this Tuesday... just before E-Day :D

I wondered what the hell happened as I tuned in to watch it.

Sad, shame on you SABC. Grow some balls, preferably brass and not glass.

I wonder when Malema will become the next Top Billing presenter.
I hate Top Billing so much already, but Malema would make it awesome.
