Hi i am ignorant of what are good line speeds and need some expert advice.
I have a 384 ADSL line and have been suffering with continues interruptions with my internet the last week and the speeds seemed much slower than usual(or so i think)Just had a telkom technician over to check my line and he did a speed test and and this are the results he got ,and i would like to no if this is par for the coarse:-

Download speed-476kbps(59.5 kb/sec transfer rate.
Upload speed96kbps(12kb/sec transfer rate

the minimum download on 384kbps is supposed to be 256kbps and minimum upload is supposed to be 64kbps

384 lines peak at ~40 KB/s. If you see anything higher on the speedtest then something is wrong with the test.

If you're on WA cap use the NewLands speedtest server, else use the one in Gauteng.

Press Ctrl-F5 on the speedtest page to reload the page completely w/o cache. Also try IE...sometimes the different browsers give different results.

I don't know where you got those results from, but it's impossible to download faster than 43kB/s on a 384kbps account. I usually get about 39-41kB/s when I download stuff on my Mweb 384kbps connection.

Did you use www.speedtest.net and used the average?

www.speedtest.net can often be quite inaccurate too, especially on a shaped ADSL account.

Seeing that you posted speeds above 384kbps, I would suggest that you log in on your router's web interface and look for the sync speed, because by the look of things you might even be synchronizing at 512kbps! And 512kbps connections costs considerably more than 384kbps.
