Speed Test - whats yours?

Got a mate who lives in Northriding in the valley, 3 km from Olivedale tower, but can only see kayalami light years away if i put ext antenna on top of his roof.
 
Well, I am just having the weirdest week. I'm capped (a while ago already), I disconnect, reconnect and resume my D/L and it flies at 40kb/s+ untill the file is completed. Not only only for 5 minutes or so either...

Anybody else getting this....LUCK!
 
Yep, been doin that for a long time, have a routine for it too :D disconnect power to modem for 2 min, plug in, connect & I can have bout 1-3 downloads at full speed until they all finish :D
 
Hi all.I am new to this forum but not new to iburst having been on iburst since March 2005.I am a technical idiot as far as most of the discussions go on this forum.I puchased one of the i burst omni antenna"s in order to increase my signal strenth as I am in (according to the i burst map a fair indoor reception area.)I like DagegeN have a lot of large trees in my area and on my property.I did read the postings by GRES but to late. The following are the speeds recorded with and without the antenna.Before each test the cache was cleared.Tests are off i burst.
Without antenna
Download best 280 worst 267
Upload best 59,4 worst 15,8
Max.pause best 485m's worst 814m's
Signal quality best 76% worst 56%

With antenna.
Download best 946 worst 854
Upload best 281 worst 202
Max. pause best 136m's worst 486m's

These tests were conducted at 08:00 to 08;30 On 28/07/2006

best recorded Telkom download 55.5kbs's worst 48,6kb's

I would really value opinions regarding the purchase of low loss antenna cable as to expected improvements in speed quality.I need at least 5 metres'
 
Hey placebo those speeds and pings are great. A huge improvement too.. i wish my antenna had done that for me :(

Whats up with the telkom donwload? 55kb?
Dont believe anyting from telkom, once again.
 
I was testing at just over 700kbps and now just over 500kbps. However downlaods from good sources are at least 70kB/s to just over 100kB/s. I feel I should be worried about the speed test results.
 
I actually notice that HTTP sources have a speed between 90 kB/s and 130kB/s. Though it's consistently near 110kB/s. So I assume this a multithreading issue. Where speedtests show between 400kbps and 800kpbs depending on the time, yet downloadsd are at least 70kB/s.
 
Whats the problem Jongi, I dont really understand.

800kb/s gets you 100KB download rates. And the speed test isnt neccesarily as well multi-threaded as a good download manager.

If you get 500 and 700kb on a speed test 70KB+ download speed is about right.
