I have 5 fines from the 18th to 22nd and they amount to about R4000. Im a student and cant really afford these, they all have like a 50% discount on them so lets say that it amounts to R2000. I was wondering does anyone think that i could get these fines taken down even more some how? PLEASE HELP?

No....

Esp if you have 5 fines from a 4 day period..

You are clearly a habitual speeder and deserve the fines.

go to your local magistrates court & speak to an officer of the court.

I hope they don't drop below R2000.
Let this be a lesson. Don't speed!

How on earth did you rack up so many fines?

learn to drive and not get fined ? had my license since '98 and never got a fine...

Well you shouldn't be speeding in the first place. 5 fines in 4 days? I think R4000 should teach you a lesson here

What you need to do here is to take your original fines, take them to a copier shop ie Postnet and have the Fines copied at a reduced rate of say 50 %. This should reduce it by around 1k.

Hey, why not ask them to reduce it by 500%, the Traffic Department might actually owe you some money.

Get real Dude. If you sum up this type of money for this type of speeding, you should not be driving.

Get a bicycle…good for the circulation and a stress reliever I’ve been told.

While I understand this must suck balls for you, I simply do not understand how you managed to rack up suck a lot of money in so short a time?

Yes, the traffic cops are often money grubbing anuses but there are laws which, should you decide to ignore, you cannot blame them for enforcing.

I've been driving for quite a couple of years now and have only gotten two speeding tickets, both for going around 11 Km/h over the speed limit.

The fact that you did the several times is just... honestly man just get a bicycle or take public transport. Clearly a car is too much responsibility for you.

If you really need the fines reduced you'll just have to beg, but don't expect sympathy.

I don't get the whole business of charging R750 for a fine... then giving you half off if you pay within a certain time period? This is not a bargain shop. A fine is a fine... since when do you get discount for paying a penalty? Just more proof that this is one massive money making exercise by the Metro.

Yeah, but anyway...

1) Do you have any photographs? Always get the photograph first. Very often they have lost the photo... or it is not even your car. Also check all the other details on the fine... date, place, etc. If the details are wrong, then you need to highlight that.

2) Address a letter to the Public Prosecutor at the Magistrate's Court in the Jurisdiction where the fine was obtained, deliver it by hand if you can otherwise regular mail. You need to speak to the Public Prosecutor in the area where the fines were given. in other words, if you got the fine in Nelspruit, you need to go and speak to the Public Prosecutor at the office of the court in that area. Usually you can also just write a letter. And yes, people do usually have good success in reasoning with the guy. His job is to weed out cases that would not have much success in court. send a copy of the fine with the letter.

3) Make the subject line of your letter "Request for Mitigation of Sentencing upon admission of guilt" and then state your reasons that you are a student or housewife or whatever other sob story. They should reduce it by at least 50%. Good Luck. You are basically telling them that you admit guilt, but you cannot pay the amount of the fine. They will be glad that you are admitting guilt and will cut the fine down to a more reasonable amount. The Public Prosecutor has that discretion. If you can draft the letter AND take it with you to see the public prosecutor at the court where the fine is directed. Just ask for the office of the public prosecutor.
