speed trap.... traffic fine

Sorry, but that is not what is considered as good advice.

Point 1 Speed limits are actually part of the law, and breaking them means that you are breaking the law.

Point 2 Money making scheme or not, they still have full legal backing

Point 3 It is exactly this attitude that we bitch and moan about Taxi drivers about.

Point 4 If you want to constantly break the law don't come crying about having to face the consequences.

Please dont give me that crap.

1. Out of 50.000 traffic fines, maybe 100 are issued due to disobeying the rules of the road the rest are spped fines
2. Accidents occur due to people not knowing how to drive or and running clearly unroadworthy crap (Taxis)
3. Traffic police - Clearly processing other road rule disobeyers is too much like hard work for them, they will rather take naps on the side of a road and let a hidden speed trap do all the work.

Yes, speed kills. I obey the rules, it just happens that now and then I go faster as I keep my eyes on the road and not looking down onto my dashboard every 2-3 seconds to make sure I do exactly 60km/h or 120km/h.

Still - no one can tell me here that they never go faster - I just dont buy it.

@op

again - pay once you received the summons

blogbytes, gotta agree with you here, I can't for one second believe all these "holy than thou" people have never done 70 in a 60 zone, come now lets cut the bull ****.

At some stage you have accidentally gone over the speed limit, so lets not tear this guy a new one as it can easily happen, even to a granny.

I am not however saying that speeding is acceptable, it is not! And if you are caught speeding then you deserve the fine. The end.

My advice would to just bite the bullet and pay the fine, get it out of your hair and just be more mindful of your speed.

Relating to the OP, 5 fines in 5 days isn't accidental, it's habitual.

And as for always driving within the limit - no, I don't. Posted limit +10km/h on the speedo for me... puts me 6-8km/h above the limit which is well within the grace margin given. Think I've received 3 speeding fines in my driving life, 2 of which were for being 11km/h over the limit.

@blogbytes I don't know who died and made you god, but I am not talking cr@p!

Here's a quote directly from the AARTO manual. By all means ignore it, at least there will be fewer idiots left on the roads.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT PAY MY FINE?
If a fine is not paid within 32 days, the infringer will pay the full penalty amount and forfeit the discount. A courtesy letter will be issued by the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA). The courtesy letter is a reminder that the infringer has failed to respond or use the options made available to him/her. The courtesy letter has an administration fee of R60.00. This means that in addition to the full penalty amount, the infringer will pay an extra R60.00.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I IGNORE THE COURTESY LETTER?
If an infringer ignores the courtesy letter for another period of 32 days, the Registrar will authorize an Enforcement Order. The Enforcement Order means that the infringer may be blocked from performing all transactions on the e-NaTIS. This means that the infringer will not be able to do the following:
 renew his/her driving licence when it expires,
 renew his/her vehicle`s licence disc when it expires, and
 renew his/her Professional Driving Licence when it expires.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT REACT TO THE ENFORCEMENT ORDER?
If an infringer does not react to the Enforcement Order for another 32 days, a warrant of execution will be authorized by the Registrar. The warrant will not mean that the infringer will be arrested by traffic officers if stopped on the road or at a roadblock. The warrant authorizes that the Road Traffic Infringement Agency can engage the services of the Sheriffs to seize the infringer`s movable goods and sell them to pay for all the costs. The authority can list you with the credit bureau.

Have a nice day.
