speed trap.... traffic fine

well it was a 60 zone and its on my way home from uni and they have never been there before so i did not know they were there nor where they visible or else i would not have done it yeah! I was going 73, 76, 83, 87, 76 and 86.

So you know the speed limit on the road, and you still chose to willfully break it 5 days in a row, but in excess of 20% each time.... That means you must have been doing 80 - 90 on your own speedometer, and at least once probably closer to 100....

You deserve the fines.

There's no need to speed. Leave home earlier. That way there's less death on our roads.

As far as I know, I have fines amounting to R1000 and I've decided not to pay them. I have a couple of friends who told me that they don't pay their fines and those fines will sort of disappear or written off after a few years. How true is this?

Just pay up, you committed the crimes afterall.

@Gary - yes it's a money making scam and the point of reducing fines is to try and get more people to pay. I'll pay a R375 fine but certainly not a R750 fine.

I dunno, why don't you ask them when they get arrested at a road block?

On the positive side, nobody got hurt and hopefully you've learnt to not speed now.
These are some of the reasons why insurance for young male drivers is so high.

Do what Gary said.

Goodness.. If I even think I caught somewhere, I tend to drive a slight bit below the speedo for at least a week up to 2 weeks. Only then, will I even consider going over when in a hurry. 5 days in a row? Mmmm.. Darwin may have had a point.

I have 5 fines from the 18th to 22nd and they amount to about R4000. Im a student and cant really afford these, they all have like a 50% discount on them so lets say that it amounts to R2000. I was wondering does anyone think that i could get these fines taken down even more some how? PLEASE HELP?

OK, so that makes you either brain dead or a Taxi driver.

FFS dude either get OFF the roads now or learn how to drive within the law....this just p i s s e s me off!!

Never seen a double post on a thread starter before. :)

I think you deserve the fines.
I think you are a danger to society and you should trade in your car for a tricycle.

I don't know how you got your drivers license. Let me refresh your memory, the Speed Limit is the maximum speed that you are allowed to drive on a give stretch of road. It is NOT the speed you drive only when you know there is a speed trap.

Lesson learned. Don't speed. Ever. Unless you are happy to pay the fines, which you clearly are not.

Are you people serious?

You guys never go 80 in a 60 zone?

@op
Pay the fine once you receive a summons.

Last fine I paid was in 2005. I only pay fines that get handed straight into my hand. The ones that get send to my Po box land straight in the trash. And please, just because you pay speed fines does not mean I have to. We all know speed fines are a money making scheme.

I have never been arrested in a road block all though I have fines open on my name.

Sorry, but that is not what is considered as good advice.

Point 1 Speed limits are actually part of the law, and breaking them means that you are breaking the law.

Point 2 Money making scheme or not, they still have full legal backing

Point 3 It is exactly this attitude that we bitch and moan about Taxi drivers about.

Point 4 If you want to constantly break the law don't come crying about having to face the consequences.

Just pay the fines, seriously.

You cannot be arrested for outstanding fines. A warrant may be issued if you received a summons and neglected to appear in Court that day.
