Just wondering do the cops trap after dark.. me and my buddy where arguing about it.

i Rate they don't, he thinks they do.

anyone know about this ??

Well I know for a fact that the fixed cameras still operate at night, but I dont think they could follow a target vehicle at night with their little radar guns!

Wouldnt they just aim for the headlights?

I also don't think they trap (not talking bout the fixed cameras) at night. Don't know why but no one I know has ever been fined for speeding after dark.

ya i know the permanent ones work at night, my dad got caught by one once...

But like actually out in the road trapping and all that...

How long does it take cops to know that a permanent camera has been painted over?

I ask cos in Durban on the N2 it took them 2months one time (not that im complaining)

I dont think they trap at night, they too lazy. They just drive around

oh and outta interest... say i'm driving 80 in a 60 zone, if a metro is driving next to me, can he pull me over for speeding ?? just wondering.

errr, i got a ticket by a non-fixed camera... at 11.30 pm.. so they def trap :(

Nope, He can berate you but legally can't prove the speed you were doing.

Got nailed at 8pm a few weeks ago... big chunk of cash :( Good road surface with 2 lanes in both directions with an island in the middle, and no traffic :( The limit is 60.

They were sitting at various positions in the same stretch of road on 2 consecutive Wednesday, and me and my fiance got a total of 5 photos :p

I didn't see any flash, and judging by the blurring background, it's quite possible that it's a camera that tracks the car.

You'd be surprised ... one of those little radar guns landed me up in jail one night :(

Yes

He can't prove the speed, but they can still say <insert legal jargon here>, iow that you were definitely over the speed limit, they just don't specify by how much ... been there, done that.

Ive seen them trapping on the N3 PMB bound just before the Mariannhill Toll plaza on many occasion. If you know the area its between the fixed camera and the Stockville Rd offramp.

The idiot is gonna get himself flattened by a truck one night.

All I can say is good luck to the traffic orrificer who has to jump out into the middle of the freeway to stop speeding cars at night. The force must be strong with that one!

They definitely trap at night! My past 3 fines have been after 11pm at night. One was at 3am after the jol near Linksfield area and the other by Marlboro...

You cannot miss that flash! You can see it from KMs away so I always know when the trapping at those spots, cos others get trapped before.

They use infrared at night, you always see the little black box on the side of the road, and if you look in your review mirror you'll see a red light coming from the box..

Yes they do trap at night...

There was a non-fixed one WITH a flash!? (is this even possible)

I swear my eyes werent playing tricks on me and 2 guys got caught in front of the car i was in...

And theres definately no fixed camera there..Was under a bridge between beyers and hans strydom at like 7PM (pitch black)

I was nailed a few years ago by a cop following me - he had a time and distance speed measuring device in the car. Boy, was I surprised...

they did once a speed trap at the entrance to Malelane

was like a strobe flashing at a disco

also once under the Jan Smuts highway where it cross the Ben Schoeman :D

luckily in both cases it wasn't /me :)

So, yes, they do trap at night.

Which begs the question - do they trap on uphill sections? :D
