Speed Trapping at night ?

Ive seen them trapping on the N3 PMB bound just before the Mariannhill Toll plaza on many occasion. If you know the area its between the fixed camera and the Stockville Rd offramp.

The idiot is gonna get himself flattened by a truck one night.

I've also seen them in this area but on the opposite side. Coming from jhb on a Wednesday morning around 5AM. It was still very dark and i spotted them trapping just before the toll plaza

Yes, a few years back I was trapped at 11pm at night on a one of the one ways in Gezina, Pretoria, a known dicing street. But didn't know the area that well to realise that back then.

And yes they do trap on uphills. I had a thread about that sometime because of the one uphill on Hans Strydom in PTA.

so thats why when i drive home at like 1 in the morning the okes REgistration plates are off....

say i'm driving 80 in a 60 zone, if a metro is driving next to me, can he pull me over for speeding ?? just wondering.

Nope - they need hard proof. A camera shot or a radar gun printout.

The reason they don't often trap at night is that the dough nut shops are all closed :)

Well I've seen them on Ontdekkers at 10:45pm last year.
And also at Oilifantsfontein in Midrand at 9pm.

Yeah thats Durban bound on that long downhill before you hit the plaza. A favourite haunt for them.

so they can trap at night.. they just are generally to lazy to...

I got caught Saturday night, after New road on the downhill towards Alandale... :( Then going home, at a fixed camera that I know of and drive slowly past everysingle day at Grayston, caught me also:(

Both were minimal, I must have been 3-4km over the limit.

They do traps at night, but I don't think it is very safe as they use torches to flag the cars over.

Its also blinding, I immediately braked when it flashed, was blinded and for atleast 3 seconds I wasnt looking at the road in front of me.

Yes

He can't prove the speed, but they can still say <insert legal jargon here>, iow that you were definitely over the speed limit, they just don't specify by how much ... been there, done that.

No he can't...he has to prove you were doing 80 in a 60 zone...but he can pull you over for recless driving if you are driving fast close to a school ect ect.

Also when the cops pull you over you have a right to ask to see there certificate that qualifies them to operate the speed trap (not with radar guns but the old 2 wire trap), also the wires need to be a set distance from each other and by right you can ask them to measure it(cant remember the distance off the top of my head)

Yup...that flash blinded me for a good few seconds.
Initially i thought it was lightning, until i received the fine :o
