Speed up home pc

Cpu, ram... just buy ram. If you spend more on ssd's, a cpu AND ram you might aswell buy a new pc or build one. Lets face it, you want a new pc. Hear my soothing voice resonate and picture a spanking brand new rig.. green and red leds blinking in the dark.. neeeeeew peeeeceeee.

No seriously. Just replace. U could easily use the old one as a htpc or just something to frack around on.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, really appreciate it.

1. Will run all of the clean up, defrag, diagnostic software and see what happens
2. I really dont think I need a SSD.
3. Regarding RAM - This seems like the biggest problem but the mobo can only taker up to 4gig RAM thats why I thought of just replacing the mobo and CPU and then add 4gig new RAM and then there will stilll be space left for more on the new mobo then I can just use the same HDD as I have now
4. I have malware bytes and have ran all the scans, nothing comes up.
5. I have also dissabled all non essential programs from the start up

If I want to replace only the mobo, cpu and RAM, which will be best for my current situation keeping in mind that I only use this pc as a home / office pc.

And again, thank you for all of the suggestions.

Getting an SSD will make a bigger difference than MOBO and CPU.

Yes I agree. However getting more ram will make a bigger difference than getting an SSD. 2gb of ram is insufficient for anything. I don't even have an SSD at the moment but I have 16gb ram and I don't struggle.

An SSD would be a waste of money for this machine. The motherboard uses SATA revision 2.0 which gives a transfer rate of 300 MB/s. Although the SSD would be a bit faster through this bottleneck, it would not give enough of an advantage over a mechanical drive to be worth the money. This is a mistake that I made with my first SSD drive.

There may also be a problem getting RAM that is compatible. You would need to check if the motherboard can accept the double sided DDR2 RAM that is currently available.

Possible options are to go for used kit like Ponder suggested. Another option would be to get a cheap i3 CPU + MB +RAM and use the on-board graphics. A final option may be to get a cheap laptop from somewhere like Makro that will do all of the things you need.

You can move the SSD to a new PC though, it's not something like DDR2 memory which you're going to be chucking in the bin when you get a new PC.

It's most definitely not a waste of money.

Agreed. So when are we getting that new pc then?

Agreed. As a component to take over into a future upgrade it will be worthwhile.

Cheapest option would be to get a used quad core (Q6600 etc) + RAM second hand on Carbonite and use your existing MB.

If you wanna go new you can get the following which will be fine for office work,
R636 - MB - MSI Intel H81M-P33
R1693 - CPU - Intel Core i3 4160 3.60Ghz (Raru has it for ~R100 cheaper)
R488 - RAM - Adata 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
-or-
R916 - RAM - G.Skill F3-1600C9D-8GAB 8GB (2x4GB) Good deal!
Thank you very much for the suggestion. Thats what I was looking for as the RAM seems to be the biggest problem but the MB can only take 4gig so need a new MB also and then cpu also so it make a nice chain reaction...

SSD is not gonna sort the OP's 2GB RAM issue out which is his biggest hassle at the moment, the OS + Browser with a few tabs open will chow through that 2GB quickly resulting in the swap file being used which really grinds things to a halt as RAM contents now gets swapped out to the hard drive. An SSD is a nice to have in the OPs situation.
That is exactly what happens. Even before opening the browser the pc will be sluggish and as soon as I open firefox it becomes useless. It sort of settles after about 2 hours of idle but even then its very slow.

All I read was " to a new pc" then streached my arms forward like a zombie retard and started chanting NEEEEYOOOOOU PEEEECEEEEE in a tired tone. Jumped on a bus and found myself threatening jews for no reason and had a rude awakening in parliament by someone threatening VOWLENCE!! and found myself crosslegged on the floor blinking at red and green leds in the dark as the chanting faded.... I still hear it sometimes... neeeeeyooooou peeeeceeee.

Maybe the BEST thing to do is to ascertain the cause of the problem prior to fixing it?

OP Try running permon to see if you determine the bottleneck.
I presume permon is a program?

I will search for it and post the results after the defrag is done.

Thanks
