Speeding on public roads

On some roads where it is open I do 180+ km/h : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Emb4ltzab8

Actually I just go flat out and my cars terminal speed is 191km/h. BUT - this is only when there are no other cars arround and I have to accept that if a tire goes or something goes wrong then I only have my self to blame. Guess it will be just as bad at 120km/h but in the end you have to take responsibility for your actions.

I also get very p1ssed off when I see people with missing numberplates. If you want to speed, fine, just pay the fine! I do - when I get caught :p

thats an astra 1.6 i assume ? those things don't even have abs, and have barrel brakes at the back, i wouldn't take that car much past 140 without worrying.

example a...my friend has one, we driving down the highway at +-120 when all of a sudden the traffic comes to a standstill, so i have to hit brakes reasonably hard, abs doesn't kick in was just like hardish braking, and i stopped with metres to spare... his car, wheels kept locking, smoke flying from the wheels... and landed in between two cars.... by massive luck.

as i always say, drive your car according to how good it is...

it might be able to hit 190, but the year it was designed in, it lacks a hell of a lot of safety features.

Thats why i still rate, either each car has a different speed limit, or cars older than a certain year, have to be replaced..

not having a go at you, but it just happens in general. I'm not going to lie, i've been +200 a couple of times.

Like another example, was driving a 330 down the highway, doing 170, a citi golf, yes thats right, must of had his foot flat, drives on my ass. ? you have to take into consideration your cars braking power... if i even mildly brake to slow down, he is going to go flying off the road or up my ass.

I think one should never underestimate the power on a citi golf... it might look like a citi but they easy to customise reaching 220 is kinda easy!!
Saw some citis run M3s away Sunday night, ive seen it before...

The best race was this silver citi VS WRX STi full house! Prodrive exhaust the works... The Sti had the first 20 - 30m mainly because of AWD... after that the Citi made him look like he was standing still... was awesome to watch!!!:D

ad R1000 says, those citi golfs still have barrels on the back and hardly what you can call discs on the front...

its more important for a car to be able to stop... then to accelerate.

and in a car that kills its occupants crashing at 60.. hate to see a 200+ crash in one of those.

The problem is people put a 2.0t or 3.2t or whatever in, and don't upgrade anything else really... so highly unsafe, whereas the bm, is designed, knowing it can do that speed.

I think you've missed the point here, mate.

Hold on a moment here. Who decided that 120km/h on a highway is acceptable? What if we had it like Perth at 80-100km/h? What if we had no speed limit like the autobahn? Who the heck decided 120km/h? I really think that:
a) a responsible driver is the most crucial thing to avoiding accidents... not speed (as PROVEN by the autobahn)
b) speed depends on the car you are in... in a brand new BMW with EBD and ABS and traction control, I'd feel far safer doing 160km/h than if I were in a 1987 corrolla.
c) if a tyre bursts or piston breaks etc, i dont see how much less damage will be done whether you do 120 or 160..
So in my opinion, I think safe driving really boils down to the driver and the type of car you have, not the speed limits...

i believe in fast driving. could have something to do with having my international license done on the autobahn.
recommended speed there is 117km/h
my opinion: most south africans drive slow (some exceptions in ct)

What a retarded statement. Why do you "believe in fast driving"? What does it achieve?

4cer you make a few very good points on your reply to my post. I completely agree with you.

Yes, my car is worth less than R50k now, it is the CS model with no active safety features (no ABS, no ESP, no SRS). I fully agree with you to keep your cars limits in mind and that is why I never go higher than 140km/h on national roads where other cars might be present. The reason is, as you said, my car does not have the stopping power to handle those speeds if something goes wrong.

The same goes for s Sh1t1 golf. Sure, it can go up to 300km/h since it weighs about the same as a can of shredded tuna, but it will not be able to stop or handle safely at those speeds. Also, I have seen the crash tests of my Astra and I know a bit about the structural deformation it undergoes. A sh1t1 golf is not structurally built to deform well, hell it was designed in the 70's...

On the open road in the platteland, where the video was made, I feel fine taking my car to its limits because I have ample stopping distance. If I tyre goes or something else fails, well then I am stuffed (would probably be at 120km/h as well) but that is my risk that I take - it does not endanger others.
