I am looking for a comfortable practical car below 500k that i can use midweek and then thrash it over the weekend on a race circuit.

Golf R seems to tick all the boxes,
BMW 135i not too bad.

any other car out there you think will do.
Thank you

I'd go for the Golf R. Brilliant to drive, fast, high quality cabin, very practical and it looks great.

Honda Civic Type R?

Ford Focus Sport?

The Type R is several leagues below the mentioned cars. In fact, I think they could pull off in 2nd ... drive to 4000rpm and still be ahead ;)

The Focus ST isn't bad - but still a league under what he wants.

I'd go for a 135i myself - but the Golf R is more practical

I would go for the Ford or the Renault

or an older model Porsche?

PS: Drove the new Megane sport model on Friday; it is frighteningly quick and sticks like snot in the bends.

There's a problem with the Golf R US model that the Stability and Traction control don't fully switch off. May wanna just check that before you get one as it kills cornering speed and you can't really thrash it that hard. It may be different for the SA model, just check with the dealer. But If you do get a Golf R, I'm gonna be so jealous

Why does everyone like the Golf R so much? It's just a golf with some bigger vents in the grills and twice the price...

I always thought the Golf R was an overpriced golf, but after driving one 2 weeks ago I've never felt that way about a car before, it's unbelievably quick, handles like a dream and the seats and interior is better than anything else in its league.
I want one sooooo bad!!! Definitely worth it, even over the S3 in my opinion.

You'd understand if you ever drove in one. 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds, the interior and exterior quality is way above any other Golf, it handles well, it sounds good and has the practicality of a normal Golf. Possibly the best all-round car available for half a million. The M3 is the same story closer to a million.

How about a used M3. Or RS4. Dunno about price though.
For a new car I also rate the Golf R very high.
