Hello guys, I have a lovely blue mini cooper convertible (before you all freak out..I'll have you know I'm female:D ) and I'm considering spraying my rims a different colour from the current, somewhat boring, silver. I'm thinking maybe black with a blue lip..:p

Well I'd like some advise please. I've heard of "powder coating" rims and spraying. Which is the better option, and where in Joburg can I get it done. Any advise against/for either method would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry for hijacking this post
I would also like to know if there is a DIY kit available

Black....urggh!

Anyway..best to goto a specialist crowd like TSW and get them done properly...or just leave them standard, as they will definitely look better that way!

Powder coating is far superior than painting in terms of durability, heat resistance etc. The base coat of Ferrari's are also powder coating (there are various reasons why the top coat is not - like lustre etc.). Pick up a yellow pages and look for somebody close by who can do it, look under mag repairs also.

LOL - is it the Jub Jub edition or the John Cooper Works edition? LOL sorry!

Go with gloss black and NO BLUE LIP please!

I'd recomend powdercoating to be safe, but a good spray shop should do the job good aswell!

Painted standard rims will always look like ehmm...painted standard rims.
Save a bit more and get some good looking mag wheels. If you have enough style to buy a car that says :I'm hot, look at me" you MUST know this painting your wheels is never gona cut it.

See Sexay....FAT wheels

wait a minute...just a sekkie, just another sekkie LMAO...

the MOMENT you said "mag wheels" you IMMEDIATELY forfeited your right to comment about rims/wheels/mags...not mag wheels rims...its one thing described by one word...its not a car vehicle, or road street, or steak meat, or sex bang, or...you get the piccie...go with gloss black wheels/mags/rims...it will set your car apart!:D;)

Hey I've all the right to reply on ANYTHING..refer to second picture and tell me different......yes I thought so...:p

Hey boetie let me explain...:)...Mag is short for Magnesium...so the correct way to use "mag" is in conjunction with another word to explain what you are talking about..thus mag WHEEL...which tells us that we are NOT talking about Magnesium pots/salt shakers/etc..but about wheels.
BTW..the word Mags is misleading as most rims are not made from Magnesium (exept specialist type wheels i.e. racing) but from alloys or if fancy from Aluminum....which is why in the East they will tune you.." hey, my china, check out my nasty alloys" which will be the better word for aftermarket wheels.

Black sprayed standard wheels still suck...:D:D

+1

Powder coating is what you want to do to your rims.

LOL hammerdown...when we talk about a car and a mag in the same sentence we are ALL assuming we are talking about wheels...and not pots on tyres!

LMAO - but a great English lit excercise and explanation you gave there...kudos!
