Some excerpts from an article on Supersport.co.za -

“Schalk was not playing well in this game and that is why we replaced him. We felt that there was no point in overplaying him,” said Springbok coach De Villiers.

This decision is sure to be a big talking point among the post-mortems. On a day when Bakkies Botha’s physical presence was sorely missed, Burger was one of the few Bok players who could make an impact in this regard, and having him replaced was tantamount to holding up the white flag.

The coach seemed at a loss to properly explain the Bok performance, mentioning the possibility that the emotion of Percy Montgomery’s landmark 100th cap might have made his team nervous and prevented them from making the start they needed.

Of course those who have watched the Boks over the past few years would be tempted to inform De Villiers that “what they know” won the Boks a World Cup under Jake White, but the team’s skipper, Victor Matfield, did appear to back the coach.

“We will have to go back and look at the video and assess where it went wrong. We made a lot of mistakes today, and it is not nice to lose, but I never felt that we were as bad as the scoreline that went against us,” said Matfield.

Well i think blaming the coach for the loss is wrong. We had so many chances to score but made stupid little mistakes and prevented us from scoring.

So while i do believe our coach is not the greatest, the team made alot of mistakes and you cannot blame the coach as much as we are.
 
Of course you can blame the coach ... he came in and undid everything a WC winning coach did. It's a known fact he hates Jake White, so is obviously out to prove that his way of rugby is better :rolleyes:
 
My 2c worth.

I'm NO John Smith fan BUT the lack of leadership on the field by Matfield was quite evident. If you don't agree with the ref, bite your lip (don't give him any), find out why the decision was taken and try to influence accordingly with probing questions. Do not PI$$ HIM OFF!

Point is we could not convert territory to points because we have NEVER discovered a way to break the All Blacks' defence 5m from the try line. THAT we need to work on. I still believe we have the best team in the world..but we need to fire on all cylinders 80 minutes, week after week!! Don't blame PDV! He is a not too bad, albeit CRAZY, coach. Remember he does not think for 15 professional rugby players on the field.

Different combinations or earlier replacements might have been wiser. Danie Rossouw should ALWAYS start against the All Blacks. Schalla did not fetch when he had to...Luke is a much better fetcher of the ball...this we need against the ABs. Pierre Spies played a brilliant game and all of his play was firstly based on getting to the breakdown and fetching THEN only backline support! We lost the game in the loose!

After all is said and done...the scoreboard remains KING!

Rubbish dude, we support them no matter what.

How can you blame a coach when we make basics mistakes over and over mephesto?

I can understand of we lost because of team selection but we lost because when we should have scored we made basic silly errors.
 
Aah, but you have the coach 'teaching' you a whole new playing style ...... keep the ball alive at all costs, even if it means playing risky, dof rugby .... why do you think there are so many more stupid things like quick throw-ins in our 22 and such? Because the coach is coaching it !

PDV is a rugby idiot. He will do to rugby what Mugabe is doing to ZIM and Mugabeki and VoomaZuma will do to SA.
 
I think PDV's ideas about running rugby are solid. Us as South Africans have been pleading for that for ages. Even during Jake's tenier, we were critisizing him for playing 'Bulls' doff rugby. So congratulations to PDV for seeing it. And our team will be unstoppable when we can learn the balance needed as when to fling it, and when to keep it tight and hard...

However, I stick to my opinion that PDV is not a good coach, I mean, I also know that the Springboks need to play smarter rugby, using different methods of attack... High balls, attack around the fringes, grubbers through, quick hands, etc etc.. But obviously I'd be a rubbish coach. We need a good coach.
 
This is my 2c

The ref is partly to blame for what happened. He killed the Boks in the 1st half. You could clearly see how the players got very upset with him. This made the Boks lose their composure.

Second was the replacements the coach made.

I think Monty should have gone off middle of the first 1/2 already. Pierre Spies was all over the field and out of place. I love the guy to bits but he was not at the break points. He should have been replace 1/2 time.

Schalk should never have been replaced.

Fourie had a shocker of a game. I blame lack of game time.

This in my view is what cost us the game. You don't have to agree but that is my view of things.
 
why are you people still supporting a team that is firstly politically motivated, and secondly going downhill fast because of PDV the rugby genius.... ? i haven't watched one springbok game this year, and i'm proud of it...
 
Yes we did chuck a couple of chances, also the ref nailed us a bit in the last 25mins of the first half. I believe if we scored there it would have been a diffrent game.
 
Because its South Africa and we will support them through thick and thin.

It is not the players fault what is happening and thus why should we abandon them?

We support SA because no matter what I will remain South African. I can move to another country, change my clothes, change my accent, even marry a foreigner but guess what...you will ALWAYS be African.

The way I see it you have 2 choices: You can do exactly what every other person in SA is doing - bitch and moun about everything...boohoo we are so bad, the country is so k@k, crime is so high, the rand is so weak, I'm emigrating, we don't have an iTunes store jarra jarra jarra. OR you can choose to be different and NOT bitch and moun, and maybe reach out to your fellow South Africans, and maybe, just maybe SOME (not all) of our problems will be solved.

Everyone can moun...easiest thing in the world...but not everyone can make a difference!
