Springboks EOYT 2012

We kicked away too much of the possession. I think Lambie only ran once and kicked away the rest of the time

Most useless player in the team is Jean de Villiers. Is he incapable of passing?

Most useless flavor commentator is Victor Matfield. When Nick Mallet speaks Matfield should listen. Maybe he'd learn that there is more to rugby than Bulls crap. Where did they end up?

I just listened to the post match Bok presser audio and I almost fell out of bed when I hear Heyneke Meyer say that he believes the way the Boks played in the second half is how trophies and tournaments are won.

WHAT???!!!

Obviously referring to the Boks stoic 2nd half defense. I would agree with him if the opposition were New Zealand or Oz but Scotland???

Look, this team is in a rebuilding phase. They far from the finished article and far from peaking. They currently performing at around 70% of their full potential.

I was watching the game with some of the country's leading sport writers yesterday and we all agreed that HM does not trust any of the players enough to let them play their own game and that they should play his plan step-by-step. They are not allowed to play what they see in front of them. Also the influence of Rassie Erasmus coming through there.

Clearly evident yesterday with Patrick doing more tactical kicking in that 2nd half than he has in his entire career so far at the Sharks and boy, does he suck at it.

The only positive we can take out of the last 2 games has been the defense. Considering how splinted this combination is, its been pretty good.

I never knew Rassie was still involved in the Bok setup? I thought his role is now purely administrative?

I think it's quite easy to be critical of the Bok coaching staff based on recent performances, in particular Louie Koen and Pieter DeVilliers.

Rassie is still very much involved. Not in the public eye at all but his work behind the scenes have a big influence on the way the Boks played.

One of the guys last night said this: "Heyneke has been waiting and wanting this Bok job for so long that he is now afraid to lose it and that in turns scares him and makes him fall back into old habits instead of making the necessary changes to himself, the game plan and the team"

Found on keo.co.za

Credit to the poster UFO, he had two gems which I read with delight yesterday.

well this a game neither team wanted to win…

the Boks didn’t want the ball and kept kicking it back to Scots who hardly looked like scoring…

so in the second half the Boks tried a different strategy to help the Scots win and kept giving the Scots penalties… but the Scots refused to take the points from the Boks and kept going for the line-out..

had the Scots taken all their penalties… (and no reason to believe they wouldn’t have kept getting them because they kept us pinned in our 22 for most of the half) they would have won the game…

but they didn’t want to…

neither did the Boks…

seems like the Boks lost the game of hot-potatoe and were got the win by default… I could swear I saw Heyneke saying to Robinson afterwards… “Jaaaaa Andy… your team was handy today and you imposed the win upon us… congratulations!”

is this what Bok rugby has become..? does Heyneke have absolutely no obligation at all to TRY and entertain the people who ultimately pay his salary by supporting the Boks ?

His other one

so a win is a win and we’ll take it… is supposed to satisfy us…? absolutebull****…

Heyneke has forgotten everything about what rugby is supposed to be… he should go and coach soccer…

to remind Heyneke of the legend of William Webb Ellis and the creation/invention of rugby in 1823…

the Rugby schoolboy, Webb Ellis who so was bored with the slow pace of a football game that he picked up the ball and RAN with it…!!!

but Heyneke wants to be remembered as an innovator and pioneer… he wants to invent a better mousetrap… reinvent the wheel… and improve on the great game of rugby… so instead of doing what every rugby player has done since Webb Ellis… Heyneke channels Dr Emmett Brown and believes the direction rugby should be going is Back to the Future… “the pace of rugby is too fast for me… my heart can’t take it… and I can’t hide my angst in the Situation Room… I’ve had an epiphany… I’ve decided that we must slow it down… instead of running with the ball as the silly boy William Webb Ellis did… let me invent a new game by just simply kicking the ball…? we can call it kickball… or skopdiekan… we have the skills for such a game… and if that is still too fast we can then just hold the ball and run into other players… we can call it holdball… or skopinnieballes…

the springboks will be the world champions of skopdiekan (or skopinnieballes)… because we’ll have internal tours and the springboks can play south africa ‘A’ and south africa POC and south africa soccer…

so be patient everyone… we are still developing our game… and can’t expect to beat south ‘A’, POC or soccer just yet…

but we will… by the time the world cup of skopdiekan comes we will have experienced players… and then you can judge my new game…!!

Crap game. Both sides technically inept. Unconvincing and uninspiring from the Boks.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

What a boring game.

Indeed. Couldn't be bothered to watch the Twickenham game after that snorefest. Kick, chase, wait for opposition to attack, defend. Same old s**t. Nothing innovative or exciting. Perhaps I should show my disgust and buy that All Black shirt.

Yes he is totally incapable of offloading and/or passing. I wouldn't say he's the most useless but IMO the oke is past his sell-by date. He is not even a shadow of the center he used to be and I also believe that since Jaque Fourie's departure it's exposing Jean's "issues" even more.

Most useless flavor commentator is Victor Matfield.

The oke is k@k. End of story. Verbally inept (when he speaks English anyway). He annoys me so much that when he commentates or speaks in the half time or post-match analysis I actually mute the sound. He should rather stick to the Afrikaans commentary channels. As a former Bulls player and Heyneke buddy you will also never hear him say anything negative about Meyer and his archaic coaching style.

I also feel that the players are not given enough freedom.

That being said, our defence was awesome. The attacking plays where we actually tried to run the ball was cut short by handeling errors more times than I care to remember.

Some players that I would like to see changed / replaced / benched / rested.

Pienaar - He is not doing our backline any favours. Where is the quick service he had going the whole season in Europe?!

Hougaard - He has had little to no impact on the last two games. Start Mvovo and bench Hougaard or give him another shot at scrumhalf and bench pienaar for a game or two.

Jean de villiers - Why the fsck does he want to keep running over people? Why not try exploiting the gap or if you really want to run over people, then learn to off load.

Zane - I would keep him in the wings as he is not doing anything wrong but I want to see someone like Taute given a chance (as long as Lambie is not avaliable due to him playing flyhalf).

Our forwards work well together considering they are a VERY green unit still. The backs are what is letting us down as with the current game plan and the way the backs are struggling... well lets just say I am not seeing us trampeling any country by a big margin any time soon.

That all being said. HM also got the Bulls doing the basics right in the first year or two when he took over as coach so I am not too worried atm.

I would like to see the boks have more than the "basics" as a game plan next year though.

I just don't feel like watching Bok matches anymore. I use to get so excited during the week for the big game on Saturdays.

Its at times like this I wish I was a AB supporter. We are just so fuking boring to watch.

Sad times :(
