Spur gets new tech to keep kids safe

Thirty Spur Steak Ranches across South Africa have now been equipped with Sensormatic technology to ensure children are kept within a safe zone.

The project, which was done in partnership with Fidelity ADT, started in May at the Spur outlet in Sunninghill.

Great idea - would be much more sensible to inject a permanent chip, though, and tattoo a barcode on the back of their necks. Or at the very least an unremovable electronic ankle bracelet. That way parents can safely pay no attention whatsoever to their offspring and defer the responsibility for their safety entirely to a more competent authority. After all, removing their clothing is kind of exactly what sickos apparently like do anyway, so I can spot a shortcoming there.

The primary problem was Spur felt the need to be seen to be "doing something" for PR purposes.

Because living in an environment where you have to electronically tag your kids in a restaurant is an inherently negative thing to have to do.

But Spur does not have a rapist or paedophile detector at the door at least there is something that they are doing to try and fight the problem and no matter how many security measures they have the safety of your kid remains your responsibility as well as a parent.
