Spur Steaks Suck!

Onion rings and their crumbed mushrooms.

And garlic snails. :D though they f#cked that up once for me as well.

Spur even destroys schnitzel. I think it is deliberate.

Last time I had a good franchise steak was RJ's and that was probably 1998 ......

yeah the schitznel is generally the older meat they've crumbed to still sell it. I've worked in two restaurants in my life, Spur was not the cleanest. The chicken perfect was actually pretty clean. I've also done a few cabling jobs in restaurants and my wife worked in some on average you don't want to see the kitchens.

During the last ten + years the only thing I ate at Spur was the Mexano Nachos Hot. Never liked the taste of their steaks.

Spur is not the place you go to eat food, its a place to go to if you have young kids so they can run around and annoy other people and so you don't have to cook or clean at home for the night.
If you live in JHB/PTA areas and you go to Spur for a steak then you are missing out.....there are sooo many decent steak houses.
If you live in the middle of nowhere and Spur is all you have, then suck it up, you chose to live there

You go to Spur for a R35 breakfast and nothing else..... Dros makes nice steak. They also make really nice calamari.

Even the R35 breakfast isn't really worth it anymore since other places started to do the same. It was cool when it was R19.

Depends on where you stay. The R35 Spur still offers the best compared to other options. There are other places that have R60 buffet breakfast which is nice. But I agree, when it was R20/25 there was no competition.

But, but, it's so much more than that (really, it is).

I'm not even ashamed to say I like that sauce, it's bloody delicious. But I buy it in the shops, Spurs food is just disappointing.

Funnily enough the reason I'm not a huge fan of Spur is not the quality of their food but the fact they've got the play area, despite having two kids. I'm not against the little terrors running around and playing while we're eating but I do wan't them to be able to sit with us and have a meal together. At Spur they see all the other kids so it's tough to get them to just sit and eat their food.
Wifey and I have never been big food people - that is to say we're generally not fussy with our food. So for us a Spur steak tastes great! Don't get me wrong, I've had a proper good steak and I know the difference between that and Spur, but I still enjoy them.
Anyway, it's all moot. We've got two kids. We don't have money to eat out - that's for rich people.

I found Hussar grill disappointing. Either it has gone downhill fast, or I'm better at making my own steak.

It just seems like really low grade meat for R200. I don't understand why they would not at most pay retail of R40 for the best meat and still make massive profits.

I see they're part of the Spur Corporation.

Haven't been to a Spur in years, but 4-5 weeks ago I tried them through Mr D. Pretty good, so I ordered more, and more. Medium-rare burger patties were great and juicy.

Last night was a double burger again, but when I opened it up I saw the blackened chargrilled patties with edges all curled up. Burnt and as dry as a bone, despite ordering medium-rare. Their quality control is not strong at all.
