Hi All

I have my OS Running off my 40gb SSD and all other games, etc running off normal hdds.

It seems that when accessing the normal hdd it has to start up first before it lets me access it. causing a slight delay. Are there any settings/tweaks that I should apply to Win 7.

Before the ssd all hdds responded instantly.

Go fiddle with power savings features. Your hard drive is being turned off when not in use.

I saw that its on its default setting which is power off after 20 min.

how do you find the performance of the OS on that SSD? Should be good?

My PC resumes in seconds... Biggest gain from an SSD is when you are actually working with files on it. I've realised that a fast boot time is not the cash for me.

I got a decent performace jump moving my OS to an SSD even coming off WD Velociraptor and Readyboost so it is worth it as the prices keep dropping.

Not everyone can shell out R2k plus for an 80gb hard drive. Trust me, I want to.

What a stupid and inconsiderate post!

Wow, arent you a smart one...

Here's why I made my 'stupid and inconsiderate' post. On every tech forum I know you still get questions about SSD vs HDD performance. To me, and probably every other SSD user out there, spinners are storage mediums. If performance is something you need/want, you should have an SSD already. Yes, I agree, prices are crap. Then again, I consider it worth the money. In fact, I'll rather advise on skipping your annual(more) GFX upgrade than skipping an SSD upgrade.

Nah, in the end it's just not an SSD. Does not matter what sticker you put on it. (I know, not what you meant. Before I get flamed for that as well. At least I can read intent.)

Cloud, I see in your other thread you said R2k budget. Save a bit more dude. R2.6K gets you 80Gb Intel. Hell, for R1.8K you can get a 64GB Corsair performance series drive that probably still kicks any spinning based drive's A-hole. Might be a tad bit small though.

Aaand, ignore those "wait for better products / days" posts. In the world of hardware there is ALWAYS something better / cheaper arround the corner.

CorneN, all valid points. The technology development point especially, since I just got the HTC Desire knowing that the samsung galaxy is around the corner.

Just not sure about the value for money aspect of a 2.6K 80gb hdd. Now 160gb at that price I could still swallow. Waiting four months or so could be a wiser move at this point.

This Seagate at half the price would still improve my performance coming from an aging 7200.10 320gb Seagate. Not sure by how much to be honest, I'm still not really sure what to do.

The search continues...

Then rather wait out the 4 months and use your 320Gb drive as storage when you do switch. At least you'll save the R1.3K on the seagate.

I was going to replace my ole 128Gb Sammy RBX Series 1 this week, but I am starting to doubt myself as well now. Those new intels comming out in Q4 does sound rather promising. Just hope the price estimates doesnt are close enough. It usually ends up being a shocker.
