SSD Poor transfer speeds

The SSD is about 2 years old. This drive is actually useless. Good for writing and reading files < 5mb. I read something about the cache but was not sure since it not widely used term. Will research a bit more. So consensus is that the drive is OK but has some hardware limitations? I have a few ssds now and none of them behave like this. It is full speed all the way.
Have you tried testing using Blackmagic disc speed test?
 
The op's speeds are pretty much sata SSD speeds, is he sure the MBB M.2 port isn't a sata M.2, apparently an Nve drive can run in a sata M.2 slot, it just defaults to the SATA speed.
NVMe and sata is completely different. the Notch prevents you from swopping. SATA runs off HDD conroller and NVMe uses direct interface lanes. they are not compatible in any way. Even my Pcie NVMe convertercard is blank with no components on .
 
What drive is the bottom one, I didn't even know they made drives that fast yet, is that PCI-e 4.0 at near max bandwidth?
Thats a little Ramdrive I use to speed things up If i need to do alot of Read Writes.
 
Oh oik. Then the SSD might be busted. I had an ssd failed on me although it said 100% health. I find the best is to go Samsung SSD as they are super reliable. Had so many Samsung SSD installed in systems and none of them failed and just works.

Oh and one other thing to try is move/clone everything to another drive and then do a secure erase on the drive.


you can do it within the WD dashboard.

M.2 is just the connector not interface. People seems to think all m.2 is the same. Hate it when people say I have M.2 thinking its faster just because it's M.2 drive and then I say m.2 is not the interface if it's sata it's the same but nvme is faster.
 
I say do that secure erase. You won't damage anything and might just be what you need to get performance back to normal.

M.2 SATA uses M.2 B+M while M.2 NVMe uses M.2 M. You can't physically fit an NVMe drive into a SATA-only slot.

As for the OP's issue, that speed is WAY below what you'd get from a cacheless drive/a drive with a small cache. How are thermals? Throttling is normally caused by one of three things. Cache full (but it should still VASTLY exceed the speed he's getting), thermals, or a bad drive.

That's the point I was trying to make to the op. There are a few other things that can come into play but it could possibly have been that.

M.2 B-key: SATA only
M.2 B+M key: SATA and PCIe (NVMe)
M.2 M-key: PCIe (NVMe) only

An M.2 SATA-only slot will only have the B key - it will not physically fit.

Does anyone have any tips on undervolting a 39050x, to lower temps and reduce energy consumption?
Is it even worth it?
