SSD prices in freefall .. article

Nice...been meaning to get one for my lappy, but can probably hang on a little while longer & get a decent sized one.

I'm another SSD convert. These things drastically improve the overall usability of your system. My Transcend 128GB SSD could be larger, but it's enough for my apps and documents with some healthy headroom.

Check this great deal:

R1.7k for a 240GB SSD with good read/write speeds. The Galax graphics cards are great, so I imagine their SSD's are good too.

Is there a huge performance gain in terms of battery life when you use a SSD?

I wouldn't say huge.

SSD use far less power but due to the nature of SSD, laptop performance should be set to high or alternatively ensure your hardrive is set to never sleep.

Like less than 5 minutes at most.
That’s disappointing. I was hoping for a 10% boost in efficiency. That would enable my laptop to remain powered for a half hour more.

SSD is so fast you'll finish all your tasks half an hour early thus saving you power in that way. :p

You are complaining about 5 hours of battery life on a laptop?

Waiting for TB size drives to be on par wi HDDs

I procured an ADATA 256GB drive last year.
Since that thing went in, anything that runs is enormously fast. It runs faster than a CORE i7 VPro

Whenever I am forced to work on hardware that only has spinning drives I realise how much I am used to the speed of SSDs.

A weak RAND is going to keep these prices and anything imported high.
In spite of that they have come down significantly even in South Africa.

I bought my first SSD the Samsung Pro 256Gb this weekend and words can not describe the speed at which that thing operates, my question thou, I am so completely hooked I want to upgrade all 3 laptops and spare pc to SSD's, but is the prices atm fair and stable or will there be an significant dip in pricing this year?

The one major issue I had replacing my boot drive with an SSD was the fact that all my Microsoft software, including Windows, required re-activation. This was a real pain as online activation didn't work as it thought I had already used the license. Ended up phoning Microsoft and spending hours getting it sorted.

Put's me off doing the other PC. That one has an SSD for Games :)

Just like a Ferrari runs faster than a jet ski?

Any of you nice ladies have a spare you want to get rid of? All this talk about speed is making me drool and I don't have the cash for a new one :(

edit: to buy of course, not for free

Currently have this issue...

I don't know how to activate my licence again.

I still have the old harddrive is there a way to export that key to the new ssd installation?
