SSD value for money for PC performance

Having had the SSD for a week now... mayor improvement in I/O for games. Currently running some of my games and page file of it. The omious GRRRR rRRRRRrr GGGrrrgGGRrrr RRgggrRR is gone

I couldn't believe the performance increase when I got my SSD. I had heard all the stories but wasn't prepared for it. Boot up time of about 5 seconds (when my other drives were unplugged) and an AV scan of C: took less than 30sec. Madness I say.

And this is only running at half speed. My mobo doesn't support sata 3.

Better than having it on a slow 120 gig. Why exactly would it be a bad idea? You'd be surprised what a difference it makes for ****ty games and their off and onloading.

Surely you have dabbled in moving your OS and or Page to the "first part" of your hdd by using partitions? (obviously talking old IDE/Initial sata and not SSD here)

Built my new PC with the 128gb Vertex 4 as my OS drive. Definitely a huge performance boost over hdd. Boot time is phenomenal. I think now that the 120gb + drives are at an affordable price they are going to become more and more common place. It was hard for people to justify R1500 for a 32/64gb drive that they can barely fit windows on.

It is true. I have upgraded so many components on my laptop/desktop over the years and SSD upgrade has been the most noticeable.

I replaced my hitachi 5400rpm with a OCZ Agility3 on my MBP, and it has been phenomenal. I no longer have fear about rebooting my computer because it is SO FAST!

Remember the speed of the ssd has nothing to do with the read and write, well it does but it is the seek time speeding everything up.

Sata 2 or 3 should run about the same for normal stuff, seek time will be the same. some people think if you have a 400/400 read write it will be faster than a 200 read write but unless you make use of it, there will be no speed difference.

People often confuse read/write with seek time.

Regarding the page file, turn it off. If you have 8-12gb you don't need it unless you use programs that will chow that much ram.

Got a Vertex 4 256GB primary and 3TB secondary in my desktop.
Vertex 3 120GB primary and 500GB hybrid secondary in my notebook.

Can't own a machine without an SSD as primary anymore.
