SSD value for money for PC performance

Bought one today on the Esquire special - not a Kingston though. Awesomeness.

Still messing with hardlinks to work out how to get the best value from it.

Currently busy putting my steam games onto the SSD & then hardlinking the big files to a HDD. HDDs seem to be particularly weak on small files, so I think this will provide the best of both worlds.

EDIT:

he price having reached below R13.26/GB
 Esquire special was <R10 per gig of usable space. R10.2 with non-special pricing, so not sure where that R13 comes from.

They always have been even when they were expensive. Maybe not for people who only game but for general/work usage there is nothing better than the power of the SSD.

I was actually shocked the other day when I saw how expensive OCZ SSD's were at Esquire! Like Wootware/Rebeltech sold the OCZ Vertex 4 128GB for cheaper at R1199 incl VAT vs Esquire's R1499 excl VAT price!

R1199 for 128GB makes it R9.37/GB !

I would only suggest SSD's for gaming only PC's that exceed like R10k.
For a office PC's I would pretty much always recommend one.

its strange that esquire is the most expensive wholesaler in the country. there's several online shop's with cheaper prices than esquire. like ikonicIT, Sybaritic, Rebeltech and Wootware. and there's less problems with these shops with faulty hardware.

ssd is definately the best upgrade you can ever do on a gaming pc. worth every one of those expensive pennies!

Paid R1095 (incl) today at Esquire. Pretty sure none of the other shops are anywhere close.

If you spending money on a SSD, it makes zero sense to get a async drive. spend the extra 10% and you get a lot more bang for buck.

the new ADATA sync drives are very fast, use the SF-2281 chipset, are good with firmware updates, and very well priced

I bought the ADATA sp900 for about R970 from Esquier this weekend.
It is my first SSD and i am very happy with it.

Think I'll be getting the corsair GT something.

The prices are now at a point where there's no excuse for not having a ssd.

In March I bought an agility 3 120gb for nearly R2200, now it's less than R1000

Yeah, anyone who leaves an SSD out of a new gaming rig or performance PC build clearly has no idea what he's doing.

Me too... And I don't regret it one bit :D

Indeed... but does not include shipping... that can be calculated on their site... and should still be very attractively priced.

Their pricing is decent, ordered the corsair force GT 120gb. Hopefully there is a difference in performance

* Hopefully * ?? Are you replacing a spinning platter with the SSD.
If so then that will be a definite difference in performance, a noticeable difference in performance.
