SSEG Registration Requirements

Hi MBB,

I live in Cape Town and I'm looking to install a wall mount inverter with 400Ah of battery capacity. Do you know if I need to register this as an SSEG with the council? It won't include solar panels.

I thought SSEG registration was only needed when you had a solar PV array, may be wrong though.

As far as I know an inverter alone is not an SSEG. There's no generation, only battery backup.
Best check with CoCT, though. There are certainly rules about islanding, etc. I suspect much depends on how exactly you connect the inverter to your AC supply.

Ahh okay that makes sense. I think with PV their concern is you will be taking from their revenue so they need you to register and pay a tariff. Thanks!
