Stage 1 load shedding hits

I would love it if they showed us their generation capacity for the week and their demand forecast for the same period. Would make our planning so much more easier.
They do...its somewhere on their web. Hell they've got forecasts like a month ahead.
 
Here, amongst the fodder, I don't really care anymore.I know that I am good for at least 4 Hours if the stuff hits the fan.

I can swing the battery (with the charger I purchased) to 95% full within the next phase of shedding. Bring it on. I am looking forward to Winter.

Many people that purchased huge batteries and added/modified them to existing UPS'S are going to have a problem.

The charger in a cheap UPS can hardly handle 7Ah batteries (stock) properly. 2x 100Ah is going to be interesting for them.

I will leave it there. Find out for yourselves. Cause most will not listen. Flattening is one thing. Charging is another. That's the killer.

Been there and done that years ago.

My apc 750 extended run ups charge at 5 amps conected to 2 100ah deep cycle bateries . Will soon try to get a few solar panels to supliment the charging

OK. Here is what I have learned over the years by throwing money at SLA batteries.

The charger must match and/be as close as possible to the what the battery Manufacturer recommends...if the battery needs say 20 Amps Max initial charging current to get the job done...give it that.

But, the secret lies in the charger control of the battery. Good chargers cuddle and look after the battery. Like a Mother and Child relationship.

I have found that a SLA battery is only as good as the charger taking care of it.

Remember the charger is hooked up to the battery 24/7/365 for maybe 10 Years in a standby setup.

Not a kids rhyme. But think about it ;)
