people need to switch off their geysers during loadshedding, imagine 100000 geysers turning on at the same time?
Can't they city achieve this with ripple control? Also, what about people who aren't home when load shedding stops and can't be at the distribution box to switch it on again after the fact?

does ripple work with the power off? yeah, got to be home, or at least just turn the geyser off if not home if your schedule says it's going off while you're away.

Here we go again....

Power came back on at 9:05am after hour 2 hour slot. Fan started making noise like it was connected to an inverter and off goes the power again.

Sub station trip or overload... Brakfontein Substation
Ours is back. Waited 15 min and then pushed back the CBs one by one. Holding thumbs for you. Turns out our lot replaced a switch cabinet here by us. See the old one lying in the grass.

Only thing you can do is if you know you are going to be away is switch off everything that is not essential.
Geyser is on a timer. Set now for a time when we never have scheduled LS.

The Tshwane idiots can't say I don't do my bit to help them in their hours of incompetent need.

Some people switch off geysers anyway, not because of Eskom but for their own electricity saving reasons.

Switching off your geysers do not save you on bills. Might actually do the opposite.

No idea, I would assume they either keep their previous state (in which case the utility could send the off signal to the area being shed before they turn off) or they reset to ON in which case yeah, not much that can be done

It has been debated to death and I don't want to get into that debate again but believe me it does save electricity for me, easy enough to see because I use prepaid and I can track and control my usage.

New to posting here, so sorry if I'm repeating.

Firstly, we're concerned that Eskom & the municipalities are fooling people further now by still claiming this is Stage 2 - what they're doing new, at least in Jo'burg, that few seem to have noticed is including the post midnight hours in their scheduling which was seldom done before, effectively making it a much more serious version of Stage 2. Twice in the last week we've therefore suffered 9 hours of a 24 hour period!
If the extra time is needed, surely better to be straight about it. Some are risking turning off security devices so as not to have their sleep disturbed, and fridge / freezer contents are still as badly affected by this disguised increased shedding. Only excuse maybe worth a thought is that businesses may be less affected... but it's still a lie.

The other concern, no doubt also discussed to death, is why Jo'burg continues to have 4.5 hours LS sessions - that's at least twice as long as anywhere else... unbelievable! Why hasn't this been sorted out, does anyone here know what feedback BS there's been about it? TIA

agree
i dont wanna get into the debate again either
i did this for a year (living on my own, geyser on for 1hr per day) and noticed i used 25 units less per month than normal.
but anyways, if those people dont believe it then that is their opinion

solar geyser setup at home with geyserwise smart monitor fitted, it switches itself on and off on preset schedule and only if the sun isn't doing the business

saves a bundle for sure, can see the difference in my monthly bill, sadly Eskom tariffs have gone up so much since the installation that my monthly bill is now back to where it was with the old, dumb, electric only geyser

How?

It's done by remotely by computers... well at least in a functioning modern city like Cape Town.
I don't know how it's usually done here in JHB but the was a guy in a beat up Golf wearing a City Power reflector switching of my street transformer yesterday, maybe he was on a completely different mission that has nothing to do with load shedding.

Or maybe he was just switching it off to protect City Power's network? No idea.

Yeah I don't think there are guys driving around 24hrs a day switching off transformers at exact times. It's done remotely.
