geyser and plugs then. Those are just resistive loads, so while a lot, just drags down the voltage, the killers are any appliance with a motor or compressor in it.
Can't they city achieve this with ripple control? Also, what about people who aren't home when load shedding stops and can't be at the distribution box to switch it on again after the fact?people need to switch off their geysers during loadshedding, imagine 100000 geysers turning on at the same time?
does ripple work with the power off? yeah, got to be home, or at least just turn the geyser off if not home if your schedule says it's going off while you're away. Can't they city achieve this with ripple control? Ours is back. Waited 15 min and then pushed back the CBs one by one. Holding thumbs for you. Turns out our lot replaced a switch cabinet here by us. See the old one lying in the grass. Here we go again....
Power came back on at 9:05am after hour 2 hour slot. Fan started making noise like it was connected to an inverter and off goes the power again.
Sub station trip or overload... Brakfontein Substation![]()
Some people switch off geysers anyway, not because of Eskom but for their own electricity saving reasons.
No idea, I would assume they either keep their previous state (in which case the utility could send the off signal to the area being shed before they turn off) or they reset to ON in which case yeah, not much that can be donedoes ripple work with the power off? yeah, got to be home, or at least just turn the geyser off if not home if your schedule says it's going off while you're away.
It has been debated to death and I don't want to get into that debate again but believe me it does save electricity for me, easy enough to see because I use prepaid and I can track and control my usage.Switching off your geysers do not save you on bills. Might actually do the opposite.

The guy who was switching my area off drives an old Citi Golf, if yours is as poor as mine maybe he's broken down somewhere.Come on... Already 1 minute late. Switch it on.

I don't know how it's usually done here in JHB but the was a guy in a beat up Golf wearing a City Power reflector switching of my street transformer yesterday, maybe he was on a completely different mission that has nothing to do with load shedding. How?
It's done by remotely by computers... well at least in a functioning modern city like Cape Town.
