Stalemate on choosing a Console

Those who knew my original stance... I have made up my mind.

Originally I said the PS3 with the thought that it would be around longer and it has better gfx.... both blown out the water

Now here is the 411:
I dont have an hdtv (hence blueray useless)
I dont play online games (PS3 free service useless)
Everyone I know have xbox360's (trading/loaning games nice)

Finally... there is a R2000 difference in price...

So I have decided on practicality reasons to go with the xBox360.

Thanks for all the info, PM's and info (ok.. already said info)

You've made the right choice

Def made the right choice...

You won't regret it.. except it'll make a dent in your wallet soon, since you'll want to get an hdtv. :)

Just get a samsung 22" lcd, would work fine, thats what I'm getting

Awesome congrats dude ;)
If it's racing you're after you've made the right choice - RACE Pro, Forza, Project Gotham & Test Drive as exclusives with GRiD, Midnight club, NFS, Pure, Baja etc etc Even the new Banjo Kazooie, you're spoiled for choice :)

@DBE, the last revision was important as it was "the fix", forthcoming revisions like jasper are mere cost cutting exercises and you gain no material benefit for waiting, all you'll do is drive yourself insane a. with jealousy, and b. just trying to figure which is which. The falcons are great, the 60gb is awesome. I'm jonesing just to upgrade my HDD ;)

whether you took a ps3 or a 360, you would not have regreted it. both are awesome consoles with really cool games. from the points you made you at least went as far as to think things out logically and decide from that and not from what fanboys spits out on these forums everyday, and you saved R2k :). Price is a big factor, sony better find a way to bring the ps3 cost down cause they are loosing a lot of sales just from that.

Very true, especially with the 360 price cut 2 mths before xmas with MAJOR titles coming out October and November!

^^^
That I can argee on, Sony needs to drop the ps3 price. Pricepoint is a major factor, and MS is winning at that.

thats the problem, if sony drop the price any more, then they need to remove more features, then people start to complain.

Look at when they dropped backwards compatability, reduced the HDD size , removed SD slots , removed 2 USB ports, people complained, moaned and used it as flamebait against sony.

People must accept the fact that the PS3 is a high end piece of technical HD
advanced equipment that does much more than just gaming.

Both consoles are priced right.

PS3 = gaming/entertainment HUB
Xbox 360 = gaming/well..... gaming

For gods sake Church...are you going to be a sony fanboy all your life?
The 360 is as much an entertainment hub as the PS3, we have discussed this at length before.

I'm sorry, but the 360 is nowhere near the entertainment hub the PS3 is. Come on, it's what all you 360 guys keep harping on about: "the 360 is for gaming, who needs all the other add-ons?"

Mainly that your 360 must be connected to SOME kind of external device, be it PC, USB, viewing photos from a cd etc. With the PS3, you just dump everything on the HDD.
I still find humour in Doh's post in the PS3/360 thread on the amazing way you can save photos on the 360's HDD, and view them, wait for it, as a custom theme! Now if that doesnt scream "media and entertainment hub", i don't know what does. ;)

Nah Kage, let 'em have that ;)

Seriously though, strategically the PS3 does try to be more of a standalone media device, the 360, as the very functionality is named is designed as an extender - the result at the end of the day is similar, but different functionality.

Basically if all you own is a console, than the PS3 is easier to get to do "other stuff", but if you have media/PC's on a home network, the 360 is more elegant (Media Centre rocks!).

the later is definitely the harder sell.

What's the dif between the 360 and the PS3 as an entertainment hub?

The difference is the way its done,

the PS3 just does it more classy(for the lack of a better word).

let me explain,

-I can connect my ipod directly to the PS3 and start coping tracks.
-I can copy pics ,movies and tracks freely from console to removable storage and vice versa .(i must still try this though with the Xbox, not sure yet)
-Built in wireless for streaming.
-I noticed that when i connected the Xbox to the PC with a wired connection,
the ethernet adapter on the XBox is a 100Mbps, where as the PS3 is a
1 Gbps, i know you cant judge a console on that alone, but its the small things like this that makes the PS3 in my eyes a better entertainment device.

The Ps3 is more user friendly when it comes to plug n play and whats allowed/disallowed on the PS3's HDD, well thats what i have witnessed so far
while i have had the Xbox.

By the way i must say when the Xbox is placed vertically, it does look rather nice/modern.
