Standard Bank apologises for systems failure

Does this mean all debit orders bounced during that time? I'll be well pissed because my vehicle's first DO was supposed to go off today.

FYI: just phoned prestige banking and they said debit orders did fail but will automatically retry again and any fees will be waived.

Systems are up and running now? Lies!

I can get into Internet banking but apparently I have no accounts.

My 25 person company runs a more fault tolerant system than Standard bank does

If a hardware failure can take down Standard bank, then my 25 person company has a more reliable IT system than one of the 4 largest banks.

Your 25 person company isn't big enough to run on hardware that can fail this hard :p

We seem to be having lots of "OK someone just got fired" events in SA lately...

Probably sysplex on their mainframe or something of that ilk, oops.

I was getting the exception error until this morning.
Now I can login to internet banking and everything seems to be fine.
(Running Chromium under OpenSuse 13)

Lol, you think your 25 man team can run a bank's infrastructure?

Internet banking still not working this morning:

Can't be just hardware anymore...

Yes it can. The system is paying catchup - it's easy enough to timeout, or be out of resources. As harsh as it sounds, right now internet banking login is the least of their problems, they have got a payday weekend and end of month worth of transactions to catchup.
