Mr Blu needed statements on two credit cards for the 2008 tax year.

I went to Standard Bank to ask for it and they promised to fax it to him, which they did a few days later.

When I checked his Internet bank account today, I noticed that they charged him R 544 for this. It seems a tad pricey, non?

Oh, who am I fooling, it's a bloody rip-off!!!!!! :mad::mad::mad:

ABSA send u a "highlights package" via mail every year that u can use for tax.
usually around March/April.
Thought other banks did that as well.

How did you manage to get the refund? Did u simply object and they paid or what were the reasons you gave?

I remember requesting a statement from Std Bank and was also gobsmacked at what they wanted to charge me. Was about a year ago and they told me R15 per page or something equally ridiculous. But R49?? Crikey!

Generally if I think 'bank', my emotions naturally run toward the annoyed end of the scale.

They had to fax me a document because of their own stupidity, then they had the flipping gal to charge me R49 for it, I phoned in and spoke to my business banker and the charges was reversed, not the first time, I had to get a new card after the “old” one stopped working after 2 weeks, they charged me for the new card… there was hell to pay that day. Don’t take **** from them, I had to do FICA for one of my business accounts not so long ago, they would not accept copies of my proof of residence, so I ,made them come to my house with a form, that states that they have personally verified my address, either that or I close all my accounts. @$$holes.

Beautiful! :D:D:D:D

Worst off it is that there is a standard Standard bank form to do this, the branch is obligated to perform this service for you when it comes to FICA, but they will rather BS you and make you run around like a headless chicken trying to get originals…..@$$holes.

Standard Bank is probable the worst for overcharging their clients. But they made two big boo-boos on some of my accounts a while back. Made a big fuss - got the regional manager involved and reversed charges to the tune of R3grand. :D:D:D
Felt much better afterwards :rolleyes:

I should have complained. I forget how much SB charged me for copies of credit card statements but it was a wack. Worse is that, say, a statement is 2 pages when you get it in the mail. When you ask for a copy it is 12pt font all spaced out and the 2 pages turn into 4 pages. Then you get gouged per page! What a racket.

My 2 US bank accounts have all the past statements for years on the web which I can download at any time. Standard Bank gives you access for the last 3 months only. Surely a ploy to make money?
