Standard Office Laptop Needed

Cheaper laptops tend to be a little hell to open and upgrade RAM or check components. Clips break, design is crap/unfriendly, cheap plastic etc... just an observation to add. Not a general rule though I'm sure.

I don't think Vostro is a good design in first place. Hinges look awful and I think you would like to get display more far from your eyes like it is on many other laptops. The same comment to the ULV CPU as above, it should be a mobile version. In addition, ULV i5 by design is not much faster than i3 and a reason is TDP.

Honestly the design and look is least of their concerns. They just need a laptop that works and can do basic email, word docs, pdf and web browsing. It the laptop they use in their factory in an office.

So what do you suggest then in the R6k price?

Then take kindly a note what I wrote before that display is opening close to the user. Many people will have problem with it.

People also complain about spongy keyboard, not up to Dell standards.

A lid opens 1cm from the edge towards the keyboard, wrong direction. In other laptops a lid opens outside the edge, extending viewing distance.

Yeah have messaged him. Will see what he says. Issue is I need the laptop by latest the weekend as I need to setup and copy data from old laptop so they can use it on Monday already.
 
Wow, a whole 1cm.... yeah that is massively going to change the dynamics of the laptop...

At R6k, if it has a remainder of NBD warranty its not bad at all, and has reasonable upgradability to help it last into the future..

An SSD at some point and doubling the RAM will change the machine when its needed.
 
Correction. It looks like I looked at the wrong picture. A lid opens outside, as it should.

Hey man, just got online and read your PM, best I can do is something around R8K but well worth the extra R2K if you can muster it up. Would be an E5480 Latitude 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD with 3 Year NBD Warranty.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately won't be able to go up more - already got them up from R5k. Originally they said budget was R10k but after speaking to the boss he explained what they use it for and not wanting to spend more than R5k.

Will probably just go with the Dell Vostro 15 3568 I mentioned above for R6k as I think it will last them a while and still has Dell NBD warranty until 2020.
