Standing in the queue

Done and dusted. Was about a hour's wait. Cant complain about anyone in the q apart from the old lady behind me that kept on going "huh? huh? what? huh? what did you say?" to her husband as he was talking to her. Station close to my home. I walked there and back.

I went at 3:20 was at at 3:40, not a crazy big ward according to last year only 2600 votes cast there but still was way quicker than this morning(2hours plus).

Took me 30 mins in the queue, saw so many old neighborhood friends, made the wait somewhat bearable.

No queue for me.

For the last 3 elections I've been going to the same place. At 17:00 I run in, show my ID, mark the ballot and run out again.

As a matter of fact, the first time I voted was in 1999 in Stellenbosch (at the old Stadsaal in Plein street). I didn't stand in any line there either ... so, I've never stood in any line to vote, ever.

5 mins for the Wifey and I. Kudos to the IEC staff. Friendly, fast and efficient. I couldn't get a selfie though as they had a 'guard' standing a few meters behind the booths keeping an eye on us.

First time voter, so much entitlement. The same people will camp out in front of a concert hall for the whole night to get in first.

Tosser lights up a cancer stick behind me and the wind blows the smoke right in front of me, and it was on school grounds, such nerve...

It took two and a half hours to cast my vote. There was only one guy scanning ID documents. The rooms with the voting booths were all practically empty.

We also only had 1 guy scanning ID books but was still very quick. I think I spent about 30 min in the queue from about 6:45am till the line started moving and then it was maybe another 20min after that?

Took about 2 hours at South Peninsula School in Plumstead, Cape Town. All the stations were run quite terribly. There was 1 person scanning IDs, but this was quite quick. The worst was the voting roll. There were 2 people running it who averaged 5 minutes per person to dig through those massive lists. They definitely weren't rushing at all :) but I guess one could blame the manual paper process. The folding/handing out of ballot papers was ridiculously slow - painful to watch and wait for. At any given moment, only 2 of the 4 voting booths were in use.

1) Surely in this day and age, the voters roll could be a computerised system? Or can the ID scanning not be linked to that?
2) Are they not allowed to pre-fold the ballots in batches, or must they wait for a person to come to the station before this can be done?
