PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe received a standing ovation as Jacob Zuma was sworn in as South Africa’s fourth black President on Saturday.

Gathered crowds at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, mainly ANC supporters and VIPs including at least 30 present or former heads of state cheered as the Zimbabwean leader was introduced and his image beamed on large television screens.

Assailed by most of the world as a tyrant, Mugabe remains a popular figure in South Africa – seen as a symbol of resistance to white minority rule by many locals still freshly-scarred by apartheid.

Mugabe attended the inauguration with Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara – the South Africans keen to cement an eight-month-old power sharing pact between the three leaders which they brokered.

Zuma hugged Mugabe before engaging in a brief chat with the 85-year-old veteran leader who has been in power for 29 years...

So let me get this straight...

Our Ministers and many powerful people gave him a standing ovation?

Seriously... WTF!

The handshake Zuma gave him practically shook the old man off his feet.

Sometimes, I can't help thinking that most Africans want to be lead by people like Mugabe, Idi Amin, Gadaffi.... Maybe it is a "respekt" thing. The more cruel the leader/chief/king, the more respect he commands?

It simply reflects the calibre of the 'people' who are in power in this country.
When one can befriend scum like mad bob and that raving nutcase Gadaffi the facts speak for themselves. Sheer bloodyminded insanity. How do we tolerate this madness? It's like being sodomised by satan and then saying "thank you sir". The entire state of affairs is simply beyond my comprehension and I dispair at the white folk's lack of response.:(

These are probably some of the same people that necklaced Zimbabweans during the xenophobic violence last year. Clearly they don't realise this man is the reason that many South Africans have lost jobs and are victims of violence.

Ignorant fools!

Remember a lot of voters are illiterate and not well read, so they probably have no clue about conditions and happenings in Zim.

Ah, but these are the people losing their jobs to fleeing Zimbabweans, they may have even become victims of crimes perpetrated by Zimbabwean "refugees". There is a large amount of xenophobic tension and this man is a big cause, yet they don't comprehend.

Or maybe it's a case of "any enemy of the evil white colonialists is a friend of ours", which helped keep Bob Mugarbage in power so long.

So if the ANC fuks up real big can we hold a codetta legally? So as I see it democracy comes down to 10million (of all color) sane people and 30million(of all color) crazy nut cases? Why should we suffer because 3 against 1 are idiots? Killing the ANC will be in self defense seeing that they are killing people indirectly, their lively hoods and facilitating crime and so on. I say every one buy a hunting rifle because peaceful hugs won't fix this country. The only hugs given went to Mugabe and corrupt officials. I think being a corrupt official or lazy/useless one is treason and they should be shot.

If an ANC mess up this country we all suffer but those idiots who applaud these guys must suffer the worst i hope.

Funny how when there are threads like this Sackboy and the rest of the ANC pompom girls go quiet??

Strange.

Actually Suckboy is a VF/FF+ pompom girl, but since Dr Mulder got in bed with the ANC I guess it comes down to the same thing.

Mugabe has agreed to form a unity gvt with MDC. This deal was brokered by the SADC with SOuth Africa at the fore-front.
Now they were supposed to shun Mugabe at an inauguration, why?
Even Tsvangirai has admitted that Mugabe remains part of Zimbabwe's solution...

Read the title of the thread - we're talking about a "standing ovation".

Because he's a dictator that's been in power for 29 years in which countless people have died all because of his decisions. He also turned the bread basket of Africa into a Cholera infested cesspool.

Screw him. He deserves nothing. It's a fracking embarrassment to our country and our people that he got a standing ovation.

They lost the election fair and square.. then had another rigged election where they could change the results in their favor, then mucked around for another year while the country descended into an even deeper hell.... Then finally formed a unity goverment, where this madman and complete buffoon is kept on as president of the country. Yes, he def deserves a standing ovation!

Even before the unity goverment, Mbeki was walking hand in hand with him. They are all the same.

I fully agree with Reindeer on this one:
