How do you actually join? Just buy a package i.e. Mustang Alpha?

Guess I won't be going for the Wing Commander package @ $10k...

Right so just be aware: as of 14 Feb the packages have been split. All packages used to include Star Citizen (the MMO) and Squadron 42 (the SP campaign). Now the packages only include Star Citizen, and SQ42 will be sold as a game on its own. Each individually sells for $45, but if you buy the one you can get the other as a $15 add-on, so it's $60 for the whole thing.

These two are the cheapest packages to get the game, and you can immediately start playing the alpha:

You don't need to spend another cent of real money to get the game. More expensive pledge packages are purely a means for those who want to support the game to contribute more money.
 
I've been watching gameplay vids on youtube this past week. It's kinda piquing my interest. How steep is the learning curve?

Depends on what your expectations are. Make no mistake, it's an alpha. It's not really a game as much as a testbed. The majority of game mechanics are not in place, and the game wastes no time trying to hold your hand. Luckily there is no persistence as yet, so you can stuff up as much as you like with no consequences. It's very rewarding though if you put a bit of time into the learning process. Easy to learn, hard to master seems to be the goal, but previous experience of flight sims or space sims will definitely help.

It currently weighs in at about 30 to 33GB if you do a clean install. Painful at our download speeds and cap figures. It's getting steadily bigger as they add more content. If you are unable to download this kind of volume on a regular basis, you may want to hang back until the game is more complete.
 
I am stuck in Windowed mode now since last night. The stupid Windows Firewall thing popped up asking me to grant access to SC. Any way to restore full screen? Setting game to windowed and back to full screen no joy. Alt + Enter also doesn't do the trick.

Weird. Alt+Enter normally works for me.

Hi Esc, go to Options -> Graphics and check if Fullscreen is set to Yes.

Last night I checked and it was on yes, just after my earlier post I saw it was no. Switched to yes and all sorted lol. You going to be on later?

Cool, yeah sure. I would probably be just after 8, I don't do to much in the game besides hanging around, flying around and chat to people. Must still figure out where the missions are and so forth. Last night was spent trying to glitch through the doors as everyone was stuck inside, luckily there were some weak spots we could glitch through. That station was crowded LOL.
 
Yeah, 16 players per server currently, so not a lot of space. If you want me to walk you through some basics, I will need your handle from the website so I can add you as a contact. Would also help if we could communicate over VoIP to coordinate. Razer / Skype / whatever.

I am now even more happy that my fibre installation should be finished by the end of the week
 
By the way, @saa044, hope you had fun last night. Pity we couldn't join the same server but we'll give it another shot in future.

Oh yeah that was a lot of fun. I will most probably be on every night for a hour or two, so just skype me if you on and wele have a nice space session. :) But the buggers stealing my ship, grrrr lol. Some constellation ship came to my rescue luckily. A mission to get in that elevator door.
