Star Citizen

At the rate they are currently forced to pay out refunds lately (I believe it is up to $700 000 confirmed refunds - estimated to $7000 000 by end 2018) they will go bankrupt before the game will ever be finished.

I was under the impression that they had stopped paying out refunds...

I don't see how they can. They cannot deny someone a refund when they haven't delivered a product.

There is a reddit that is still active explaining how to get your refund, so no. They have not stopped giving refunds.

And if you read that subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen_refunds/) There are a number of threads talking about how no one has gotten a refund if they started the process in 2018.

To be clear - Refunds are over right? self.starcitizen_refunds

It seems CIG hasn't refunded anyone who requested a refund in 2018, other than people who started the process before December 2017 or people who they are legally mandated in the US to refund in the initial 14 day purchase "cool off" window.

Can anyone dispute this or offer an alternate viewpoint?

So if they are still offering refunds they have slowed down a lot...

Well, what I've read is that they changed their terms of service and now offer 30 day money back option. (Polygon article from Feb 2018) Of course after 6 years most backers are screwed.
The confirmed refunds and estimated amount is from Dec 2017 so it is possible that they are trying to stop refunds.
That in itself is not a good sign.
It either means they do not want to disclose the rate at which people are dropping the game or they do not have the cash to pay out the refunds.

Yeah, I wonder if Roberts knew that in order for his grand vision to succeed (Star Citizen MMO) he couldn't afford to release Squadron 42 early. If people got their space combat fix with Squadron 42 it would be a lot harder to subsequently keep them interested in supporting work on the MMO.

I am about R350 invested, Golden Ticket holder, got some entry level ship, one of the first.

My opinion.
I am in product management, full lifecycle.
The way you create a product is this:
1. build a barebones working SELLABLE version as get it as soon as possible to market.
2. Then take user community feedback aligned with planned internal enhancements, prioritise line items and roll them into live in a controlled manner.
3. Rinse and repeat point 2 ad infinitum

What CR did was to envision the full scope for the next 30 years, bound himself up with promises in the process and has no capacity to deliver on those promises and scope.

I am waiting for the "we are retiring this game" announcement.

I completely agree with your analysis. But i suspect they will release a no-mans-sky version that will, expectedly, suck. When things go pear-shaped and the funds run dry, then we'll get the "we tried our best, but it just didn't work out".

It is public but it's not the live release, if that's what you were asking.

Yeah I meant live, I logged into my SC from work but it still shows 3.1

I believe there aren't any optimization improvements in this patch or do you notice any improvement?

Should be released to live pretty soon.

Performance wise the 3.2 patch has been really good, I'm not sure yet whether that's just because it's on less-strained PTU servers though but there has been a lot less stuttering overall. I've generally been getting between 30-40 fps on this build - this is at 4K although generally won't get much higher than that with lower resolutions so I stick to 4k as it looks prettier. Will hold final judgement on performance when it hits live servers.

Cool, I'm hoping I can finally play on this release.

Pretty cool, you sometimes need more people to help mine specific deposits.

Feel free to leave comments if you think i'm smoking my socks with that post.
Also I saw there is a Star Citizen SA Facebook group, maybe worth a shot to join to start showing numbers for SA players interested in the long haul now as these things take time?

I love playing the PTU builds as this is where one can go crazy testing all the ships you don't own and blowing yourself\friends up is business as usual and highly recommended :p and ever since 3.2.x it has some very playable moments with decent performance if you climb into semi empty sessions and this http://www.boredgamer.co.uk/2018/04/02/star-citizen-performance-guide-3-1/ is a must

New SQ42 trailer looks badass:

A badass trailer, clearly without a release date. As I understand correctly, Squadron 42’s public roadmap will only be published this year around December, that is what people said was stated by CIG.

In my opinion, they are dangling carrots again… I guess 2020 at the soonest, maybe 2021.

I am training my son to play this game. One day he will train his child to play this game. And then the next GOT book will come out
