Played the flight tutorial in arena commander last night it was very informative highly recommended if you haven't got the basics down yet.
I crashed the first time in the hnger when I took the controls lol.

So it actually worked for you? No freezes every 5 seconds or so? No invincible combat drones? It was helluva buggy recently; they haven't really been working on it for a while.
Worked great finished up until advance combat. Will still take some time to get use to all the controls.
What do you guys play with mouse, gamepad or joystick ?

I have a Logitech Extreme 3D pro and a Force 3D pro. I paid R200 for the force 3d pro on carbonite, but not using it. You are welcome to it if you want it for the same price I paid a month ago. Otherwise look on Gumtree for a extreme 3D pro, they are the best for this game.
I have a wingman force 3d, should work ok? Nice thing is it has a twist function and a throttle slider.
Alternately I have a HOTAS cougar.
With a joystick aren't you missing some axis of control though?
You have pitch, roll and yaw, but how do you strafe up down left right for example?

I do it from the keyboard. You can perhaps remap it to the hat-switch if you prefer.
Point is, unless you have a proper HOTAS setup, you just won't have enough buttons for everything. This game has a LOT of keybinds. So map the stuff you use most often to the stick, and the rest you can just use the keyboard for.
The 3D Pro has 12 buttons, and that's plenty for how I fly.
Ah yeah. Mapping to a hat-switch might work. I'll try that if the download ever finishes..lol.
@Kensei2605. Yeah, I bought them back in my bachelor days when I was flying Falcon4. Worth every cent.
There's a nicer set out now, the HOTAS Warthog.
Waiting for that download can be a pain! Hopefully they deploy the incremental patcher soon, which will make subsequent updates more manageable. At this point, most major patches are 24GB all over again.
Yah, that is what made me set the game aside until they could improve on the patching...
Not sure where you stay, but if Pretoria you are welcome to come and grab the files here. Like the toasters or what ever they are called, those Linux ones, I welcome any Star Citizen user in my area to come grab the files.
