Star Citizen

I guess Squadron 42 may happen... soon'ish? CIG is sending out invites to select people to attend a three-day long event at their Manchester studio. This includes a hands-on experience with Squadron 42. This does not mean that the game is releasing, but that it will be demoed.

This event starts on October 9th. I guess it will be more PR than anything else.

Some backers claimed to have received an invite. This is how the event allegedly leaked. Seats at a dev 'meet and greet' will be limited. So, mainly media and social media stardom peeps, and some rich backers and Star Citizen content creators.

I would assume then that October could be SQ42's marketing beginning. So... March/April 2027?

Even having such a rough estimate still doesn't establish how the game will be released. It could, potentially, be episodic, but I don't think the broad market would like that in this genre. Who knows?

Not to be funny but I loooove this ship design

Almost enough for me to fork out money for the game.

Edit: Bliksem!!!

That went from cool to a solid NOPE in 2 seconds flat.

According to some discussion boards, Star Citizens really love to spend money on acquiring these.

All I want is a Kruger L-22 Alpha Wolf.

Bought the base starter pack back in 2016 that included Avenger & S42. Haven't installed it and now don't even have a PC capable of running it. So will 1st have to get a rig to start playing and with current AI Pricing I dont see that happening soon.

Also I know there is cheaper options like say the Syulen for only $80 and you can get ships in game.
Problem is people forking out that amount of real world cash for a virtual items that can go bye bye with a push of a button.

Never understood the fascination with so many ships. I'd much rather have a working game.

When I backed I may have still be interested in playing multiplayer games, but now I'm older and really have no desire to play with other people. Now I'm just waiting for Squadron.

My itch been scratched sine then with Starfield and No Man Sky.

Still like to see the Alien ships cause ^ those where kinda lacking in that department.

It might not be Star Citizen, or Elite Dangerous, but I love playing X4. Each game here is unique, but X4 got so many space sim things right. I like X4 more than I do ED. I have good hours poured into ED. X4 though can get addictive.

The modding is great too, other than the QoL mods (some which is a must have) look at this:

I haven't played SWI, but I think I will give it a go until Squadron 42 arrives.

It is not that long until the Star Citizen exclusive three-day event in October. We know that some special people will get a hands-on experience with Squadron 42. By all accounts, it is a PR show.

So... going by the CIG pledge, sorry, "The Pledge",

what do you all expect to happen? Will the game be postponed again to some point in an unknown time, or will we get a date?

Anyhow, Star Citizen patch 4.10 has been released with a rather tall patch log.

Is this a good patch or a bad patch? We will know soon enough.

New Pledge,

LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN

...

At CitizenCon 2024 we announced we would ship in 2026. Our plan was to release in Q4 around IAE. But much like the rest of the industry there is no way I want to launch my spiritual successor to Wing Commander, a game that has had twelve years of blood, sweat and tears invested into it (we started Squadron 42 development in 2014 as 2013 was opening studios, hiring people and getting the Hangar module out for Star Citizen) launching into the attention buzz saw of GTA6. While GTA6 isn’t launching on PC this November, pretty much all outlets and most content creators will be all over it, not leaving a lot of room for other coverage.

We have taken a look at the release windows at the start of 2027, and decided that Q2 provides a better time for Squadron 42 to release.

We are allowing a small number of original backers and long-time Star Citizen content creators an opportunity to play Squadron 42 this October 9th and 10th. We’ll be making further announcements about our release plans during this time and a specific release date shortly afterwards.

I know a lot of you will be disappointed to not be playing Squadron 42 at the end of this year, but it is the best thing for the project as it is truly something special and so needs to the opportunity to have the focus of the wider gaming world.

I am unsure which games are set to release in Q2 2027, but I know Exodus is one. Will it be postponed again in Q2 2027? Likely.

A game like this will need at least a six-month-long marketing campaign. Promotions don't begin in January; this game isn't coming in Q2 2027.

It is important to note that a release date won't be announced at the exclusive event. I don't know what "shortly" means in their terms, but it does seem that when the next announcement concerning the game's release is made, it will be precise. IMHO, they will announce a window like every other time. There is a good chance that GTA 6 is coming to PC in 2027.

GTA might release. Hold
GTA should release. Hold.
