Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

Hmmm, a bit of an odd title. It seems to me the Jedi were back with a bang (geddit?) at the end of ROTJ.

Is this Obi Wan stepping out of the shower and realising the previous 6 movies were a dream and he's not really dead?
 
I suspect that this refers back to the genocide of the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith.
Since then they have been slowly recovering...

Yeah! Thinking about it, I suppose Luke was really the only Jedi at the end of ROTJ so maybe they are back to the prominence of the days of Ep 1 and 2 before the massacre.
 
Erm no, Luke started an Academy and found other Jedi by checking the bloodlines, the ability to harness the force seems to be a hereditary thing. Read some of the later books, got bored quickly though once you got to Han Solo's kids, even with the one kid having powers of controlling planet cores and whatnot.

The books that came after the original trilogy have got nothing to do with the movie whatsoever and are not canon at all.

Where else are they going to get the ideas from? Most, if not all, are based on the movie, at least the ones I read.

Writers, Creative Consultants, Script Editors, Producers, etc... you know... all those people whose names come up at the end of a movie.
 
The Star Wars universe is going to be redefined, especially with regards to the EU (Expanded Universe), which has been described as a bloated mess. Everything you have read could be cast off. Right now only what has been seen in the 6 films can be seen as canon and between Lucasfilm and Disney, they can go wherever they'd like.

Word began trickling out over Twitter last week that Disney will be drastically redefining the state of the Star Wars lore, eliminating the bifurcated mainline/EU arrangement and in its place constructing a single official canon. All things that are part of the canon are "real," as far as Star Wars is concerned; all things not in the canon are "not real." This eliminates the quasi-real EU tier—going forward, things will either exist officially, or not at all.

Lucasfilm employee Leland Chee, who currently maintains the internal Lucasfilm database that tracks the different elements of the canon, will be one of the folks making this decision. He tweeted that "Star Wars Canon is now determined by the Lucasfilm Story Group," which he and fellow Lucasfilm employee Pablo Hidalgo are part of. When asked specifically whether the group's goal was to eliminate the mainline/EU canon arrangement and its tiers of official-ness, Chee responded with a definitive yes. "More so than ever," he said, "the canon field will serve us internally simply for classification rather than setting hierarchy."

Yeah it reeks of cheese but as long as the film is epic (which we all hope it will be considering the Ep 1 - 3 trainwreck) no one will care. :p

Something like "STAR WARS: The Awakening" would have been less smelly though.

'STAR WARS' TRAILER TO BE RELEASED THIS WEEK

A teaser trailer for the new "Star Wars" movie will be released Friday, according to the director of the upcoming seventh film in the iconic franchise.

"A tiny peek at what we're working on -- this Friday, in select theaters," tweeted filmmaker J.J. Abrams, adding that the trailer will be 88 seconds long.

"Hope you enjoy, and have a most excellent Thanksgiving," he said, referring to the US national holiday this Thursday.

Earlier this month studio giant Disney revealed the name of the new film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," saying filming had been completed on the movie, due for released on December 18, 2015.

"Star Wars" has attracted generations of loyal fans ever since the first film arrived in 1977 recounting the adventures of Skywalker, Han Solo and Darth Vader.

Filming began in Britain in May on Episode VII.

Original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker will star in the new film, along with several newcomers including Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o.

Other cast members include veteran actor Max von Sydow, "Girls" star Adam Driver, motion-capture expert Andy Serkis and "Harry Potter" veteran Domhnall Gleeson.

This is gonna be like that Dark Knight Rises preview. People pay just to watch it in theatres and go out afterwards and ask for their money back.
