I think you have no idea who JJ Abrahams is and what it takes to direct a movie like this (or any decent movie regardless of the level of CGI)

Wells' In the Abyss. Nolan did not conceive Batman nor Superman.

All of these guys have used the stories of others or conceived their own and they are all good at what they do.

You forgot Cameron having to settle out in court for hijacking The Terminator story and True Lies was a remake.
 
Are they not several star wars films before this one spanning back 40 yrs ago ? like more than 5 films ? I think this is the main reason why The film wont even pass the billion dollar mark unless of course the ticket price is inflated . The top 5 highest grossing movies were not sequels but first timers or remakes . 6 of the top 10 were first timers, the other 4 2nd/3rd sequel and the 8th harry potter film.

But there's no Paul Walker in it or a love story so no.
Will make lots of money initially but will taper off very quickly.

Movie is in serious danger of being overhyped.
