State backs Eskom on tariff increase

the state can kiss my ass... a 60% increase is unacceptable ESP for the service they are currently providing.

53% -> 60% overnight?

Ah, of course! 53% for eksdom and 7% for the ANC coffers to push this through.

skay.

The government’s support for Eskom comes amid a groundswell of discontent over the proposal, and a sharp attack from the ruling African National Congress (ANC), which yesterday came out against what it called “unfair” tariff increases. The ANC called for Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin to intervene in the matter.

I just do not get this.
They are one and the same.

The difference between the ANC ruling party and the guvmint is that the guvmint coffers are the fatcats that will be collecting the fat cheques. The ruling party members are the ones that have to actually cough up.

In any case, what happened with all the money Eskom collected over the past 15 years since they last built a power plant? Surely not all of it went to buy more coal and pay salaries? Some of it must have gone in the kitty for a rainy day?!

Seems they have not bought coal for a year, anyways.
Eskom are milking us, with government sanction, and there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel. (Sorry, pun NOT intended)

hmm...did neotel buy any network from eskom?

Looks like eskom see's an opportunity to cash in while not doing much.
They want more money to maintain/increase their profit margins and also provide large bonuses to management while degrading their services and service delivery.

Way to go south africa!!!!!

If this carries on, i wont be able to buy a house this year or in the near future, then i will have to leave this god forsaken country, which i dont want to do, but if i cant live here, then i have no choice <sad face/>

Oh and making the "higher income" households pay more is almost tantamount to communism....f*** that!

Well on our way to Zim 2.0

Just another Banana Republic

What a shock: the corrupt backing the corrupt in an attempt to quickly line each other's pockets at the cost of the public.

Bonuses.
Self enrichment is the no.1 priority of the incompetent fools at the helm of this country and it's institutes.

Already had to sell my wife's car, just to survive. My house has to go next. I don't think that would be the end though. I am leaving SA. Just cant fight anymore. Not worth it. If you can leave, then you should; otherwise you are just plain stupid.

I asked a some people a few years ago why they didn't leave; because they could quite easily set up shop elsewhere. Their response was that their lives here in SA was sufficiently cushioned by enough money. The power thing is now endangering all that so now these people who said they'd never leave are planning on doing so.

Just a few bits of paperwork and I'll be off to the sunny UK. Just kidding - everyone knows there's no sunshine in the UK :p
