PIETERMARITZBURG - Black professionals from Pietermaritzburg have asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to ensure the government hires the correct people because “being an African National Congress (ANC) member is not a qualification”.
Ramaphosa was in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday as part of the ANC’s “Thuma Mina” campaign engaging various sectors in preparation for the party’s manifesto ahead of 2019’s general elections.
He started off with a five-kilometre walk at KwaMashu and ended off in Chatsworth to engage with community members.
A member of the SA Medical Association, Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa, has told Ramaphosa that the healthcare system in KwaZulu-Natal has collapsed, partly because the wrong people are hired.
Mzukwa added that political appointments without the necessary expertise have crippled the efficiency of public healthcare.
He also says there are no longer advertisements for the position of CEO and instead the same people keep being rotated within institutions.
At the same time, Nomusa Mbatha from the Progressive Professionals Forum also lamented what she has described as anarchy within local government, echoing the sentiments that most of the financial crisis have been caused because professionals are sidelined while politicians get appointed into positions they aren’t qualified to do.

https://ewn.co.za/2018/09/09/da-lau...for-ramaphosa-to-testify-before-zondo-inquiryThe Democratic Alliance (DA) has launched a petition calling for African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa, to testify before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.
The opposition party says there is a need for a political explanation as to why the ANC allowed alleged state capture to continue while members such as former Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas came forward with revelations.
The DA says the ANC should be held accountable and going through the Zondo commission would be the first step.
The DA’s chief whip, John Steenhuisen, says ANC members who were in Cabinet may have known about the extent of state capture and chose to do nothing about it.
“The ANC has to account to the people of South Africa for how they allowed state capture to occur, how they nurtured it, how they protected it and how they ensured that it was sustained.”
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa, however, says the party has always taken the allegations seriously.
“We call on them [DA] not to grandstand. Go to the commission, make sure that you submit credible information upon which the ANC, as an implicated organisation, must come and make a presentation.”
Kodwa says the ANC will continue to support the commission and has urged anyone, including political parties, who wish to play a role in the inquiry to do so.
Ramaphosa’s ANC cannot escape complicity in aiding and abetting state capture as their indifference allowed state capture to flourish.
State capture is one of the biggest heists ever committed against the South African people.#StateCaptureCommission

Johannesburg - The Gupta companies Infinity Media and The New Age (TNA) received over R260 million from various government departments on advertising spend over a number of years.
This amount was revealed during the testimony of National Treasury official Jan Gilliland at the state capture inquiry on Monday in Johannesburg.
Gilliland told the inquiry that through the system used by various government departments and the National Treasury in order to track the orders and payments to suppliers, the companies owned by the Gupta family Infinity Media and TNA received R260 million on advertising spend from various government departments.
TNA owned the newspaper chain The New Age newspaper and Infinity Media ran the television news channel ANN7.
The commission's legal team had asked the National Treasury to search for payments made to Infinity Media and TNA.
Advocate Vincent Maleka told the commission's chairperson, deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo, that the aim of obtaining the proof of these payments was to finish telling the three-part story of GCIS.
The acting director-general at GCIS Phumla Williams told the first part and former GCIS CEO Themba Maseko had told the second part and Gilliland was testifying on the third part of the GCIS story, Maleka said.
Maseko had told the inquiry how he was fired from his job at former president Jacob Zuma's request after he refused to help the Gupta family gain access to the GCIS' R600 million media buying budget.
Johannesburg - Duduzane Zuma has told the commission of inquiry into state capture that he is now willing to appear and testify on his version of events.
Zuma's legal counsel Dawie Joubert told the inquiry last week that his client would like to testify at the inquiry, but he can't as he is facing parallel charges related to state capture.
Zuma is facing charges related to the bribery of Jonas and has been released on bail and is expected to appear in January 2019 for the case.
Joubert said Duduzane has been charged unfairly as it is clear from the evidence submitted that Jonas did not lay a criminal case against him. Duduzane's ability to appear before the inquiry is hampered by the case he is facing.
On Monday in the letter read out by Advocate Paul Pretorius, who is part of the commission's legal team, Zuma said he was willing to appear.
"He is prepared to attend and appear as a witness before the commission in terms of the evidence given by Mcebisi Jonas. We are asked to place this before the commission," said Pretorius.
Anyone know why the inquiry has been suspended until further notice?
I would guess something to do with Zuma and co's meeting...
What meeting?I would guess something to do with Zuma and co's meeting...
What meeting?
The Sunday Times stated that Zuma held a meeting with ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, ANC Women’s League secretary-general Meokgo Matuba, and ANC Youth League KwaZulu-Natal secretary Thanduxolo Sabelo at the Maharani hotel in Durban on Thursday.
“So secret was the Maharani meeting that those who were present denied having met Zuma, even though the Sunday Times is in possession of pictures of them together inside the hotel, and outside when they left,” stated the report.
Oh okay, but don't see why a totally unrelated event could lead to the postponement of the inquiry.

I smell a HUGE rat. This was reported in the media, but suddenly nothing about this anymore. One of the biggest culprits of state capture has a clandestine meeting with ANC leaders and a few days later the enquiry is postponed, indefinitely...

Wasn't this is the commission where Zuma wanted to appoint his "own" judge, but the court rules otherwise? One of the biggest culprits of state capture has a clandestine meeting with ANC leaders and a few days later the enquiry is postponed, indefinitely...
Totally agree, there must be a reasonable explanation.Wasn't this is the commission where Zuma wanted to appoint his "own" judge, but the court rules otherwise?
Would it be ignorant to assume this commission is as independent as one can get? (no Zuma fingers involved ) In that case, I don't see how these event can be related?
Or it could just be that your tinfoil is in need of tuning. By what logical leap do you see a connection between the adjournment of the commission and Zuma's plotting?are you sandbagging or just being deliberately dense?
