State capture inquiry begins

Ramaphosa says it would be his ‘greatest pleasure’ to appear before state capture inquiry
President Cyril Ramaphosa has told Parliament that it would be his "greatest pleasure" to testify before the commission of inquiry into state capture. Ramaphosa made the undertaking while responding to oral questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday afternoon. This comes after the DA recently mounted a public campaign to force Ramaphosa to appear as a witness before the commission of inquiry headed by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

DA MP in the NCOP Cathleen Labuschagne took up the issue with Ramaphosa during the presidential Q&A‚ and he indicated that he would "be happy" to give evidence before the Zondo Commission. In contrast‚ former president Jacob Zuma‚ who has been directly implicated in several allegations of state capture‚ has stated that he saw no need to appear before the commission because nobody had presented enough evidence against him.

"As far as I'm concerned‚ if the Zondo Commission asked me to appear before it‚ I have no difficulty‚ I have no opposition. I will go with a great deal of pleasure before the Zondo Commission‚" said Ramaphosa.

Well that's a relief...
Zuma: There is no state that is captured
Delivering a lecture on free education at the Walter Sisulu University’s Nelson Mandela Drive Site Campus in Mthatha on Wednesday, the former president said he did not believe the state had been captured.

....
“A state is composed of three elements, it is the legislature, executive and judiciary. That constitutes the state. So, let me ask the question, if that is the case, what is this thing called state capture? Does it mean these three arms have been captured? Is it true?

“We have a commission that is sitting investigating the state capture. Is the state captured? My view, and I am not disagreeing with anyone, is that these are politically decorated expressions. Absolutely,” said Zuma.

“There is no state that is captured.”

He said even when people were trying to describe state capture, especially when giving evidence, it only revealed that there were some individuals who were doing things with other people.

Shot guys...

News24 seems to either be very quiet on that front, or have buried the story...

Hells bells it couldn't have been on the main page very long.. and now they bury it...

I wonder about their priorities from a news point of view at times..

Good on Zondo in telling the Guptas to get bent...

They can cross-examine IF they appear in the country, otherwise they can fek off.

#StateCaptureInquiry: Zondo denies Guptas' requests for cross-examination in scathing ruling

The chairperson of the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, has denied the Gupta brothers leave to cross-examine witnesses.
Ajay and Rajesh Gupta had applied to cross examine former deputy minister Mcebisi Jonas, former GCIS head Themba Maseko and former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor.
He said the Guptas had no valid reason not to appear before the commission, and denied their request for the commission to travel abroad to hear their testimony. He also denied their request to testify via videolink.
"If the commission does not hear the side of the Gupta brothers it will not be because of the commission but that they decided to turn their backs on South Africa," Zondo said.

#StateCaptureInquiry: Zondo asks for Jacob Zuma to provide his side of the story

The chairperson of the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, says he would like former president Jacob Zuma to give his side of the story on allegations against him.

"I have invited the lawyers of the former president [to request] that he could put his version in an affidavit," Zondo said.

This was after evidence presented by former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor which stated that Zuma was at the Guptas' home when she was offered a ministerial post.

Mentor previously told the commission that Zuma did not address the issue of the Guptas offering her a ministerial job, but instead tried to calm her down.

Why ask? Insist, summon the POS and jail him for contempt if he does not pitch. Does the commission not have those powers?
