(143k - 100k) = 43k. With annual exemption, wouldn't it be flat rate of 20% on 43K and not on 143K?

Ahhh damn... overly simplified my life.. yes you are right :)...

Still would probably be nearing R30k he owes SARS at this point, plus penalties..

But yeah, in my opinion (even though I screw basic tax things up), this story is bollocks from top to bottom in terms of her close family member paying this car off for her.

Paying off part of debt is rather common within indian communities. I once paid off one month's rent for someone - they were neighbours but good people whose business went through bad times.

Oh, I'm not questioning that aspect of it... but if you did that to the tune of over R100k in a year (to one specific individual) SARS would have a legitimate claim for donations tax for the amount above R100k and you would be in breach of tax lays if you didn't pay it.

The part I am questioning is the way she is trying to explain away why Atlantis Motors settled the car. I'm sure Atlantis Motors may have something to say about it, or there will be a corresponding R150k deposit from this close family...

I believe so but I think everyone deserves chance (or two?) at redemption.

Everyone deserves a chance at explaining themselves, and if they are innocent then all fair and well, if they are guilty then they must suffer the consequences of their actions.

I should have mentioned that my comment was only for the support she had for Zupta in terms of journalistic articles she wrote. If she turned around and it certainly looks (for whatever reasons), that would be her redemption in my opinion.

Obviously, if she did some criminality in zupta years, she needs to be prosecuted. I don't think anyone will disagree on that front.

To a layman like me, it certainly looks like Zondo is going to grant moyane's request to cross-examine gordhan. This is going to be interesting.

Young Zuma is testifying today:

So far: Mcebisi Jonas is a liar.

I heard a few seconds on the radio news just now, and didn't recognise the voice. He is a lot more fluent in English than Showerhead, but seems to have the same 'it wasn't me' responses...

Yeah he's basically saying I was there but the victim was alive when I left him because no one can tie him to anything other than placing him on the scene at the time. Lying scum bag.

Not sure if this deserves it's own thread since it's at the interface between state capture, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the SSA, and the rogue unit. It's getting harder and harder to keep up with all these things as discrete news items.

Sounds like Zuma still has SSA agents who report to him and are emplaced in SOEs. They should just line up all the people who don't talk sense in meetings, and send them to jail.
