And another POS

Hawks Colonel Mhlongo was accused at Zondo commission of serious crime. Seven months later, he is still in his KZN top job

Seven months have passed since a top cop in KwaZulu-Natal, Colonel Welcome Mhlongo, was implicated in serious corruption by two witnesses at the Zondo commission. Despite a promised investigation into his appointment, Mhlongo still occupies a crucial position.

STALLED: CORRUPTION BUSTS

Batohi: No convictions for State Capture accused in 2019 — prosecutions are likely in 2020

After 300 days in office, the National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi is not close to getting a State Capture accused into orange overalls.

Focus on apartheid as a crime against humanity

But Batohi says it can’t all be State Capture cases. “(I understand) that corruption prosecutions build confidence. We understand the impact the NPA will make with a few focused prosecutions, but there is still murder, sexual crimes, cyber-crimes. Another important area for us is TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) cases. We are working very closely with families who have lost loved ones. We are looking at how to utilise the legal framework to even charge (perpetrators with) apartheid as a crime against humanity.”

The wheels turn slowly

“People just want to see the wheels of justice are turning – but (the people) don’t see they have been really crusted with dust. Getting them to turn is extremely difficult,” said Batohi who said she regularly received emails asking when there would be justice. It was clear from the briefing that both women, who represent the new lady justices, are keenly aware of the calls for prosecutions from almost every corner in South Africa. But Batohi’s mantra of under-promising and over-delivering means she is playing her cards close to her chest – from Daily Maverick’s reading of things, it will take at least six months more to see prosecutorial action at a scale and intensity to build confidence.

While we're all appeased by the Zondo Commission, the theft and ineptitude continues.

Auditor General (AG) Kimi Makwetu said not one of the 14 big state-owned entities (SOEs) audited by his office received a clean audit, a poorer outcome than last year.

And the people responsible for that have nothing to fear, because there will not be any consequences. So, why worry? Waste money and go on as before, nothing will happen.

Now this seems a reasonable estimate compared to paltry 2.6 Mil for saxonwold - I still think there was some extreme dodgy deal in that auction.

>>After all, she said, if all South African civil servants would be banned from continuing work after disciplinary proceedings, “we would have nobody working”.

Very true

What is this leading the witness thing? Did J expect hole-in-the-head to respond 'No Justice, zuma was very calm as he had taken his shower few minutes ago' ?

Given all this, Judge Raymond Zondo suggested to Nkoana-Mashabane, Zuma must have been furious.

“The first time I had a conversation with him [about Waterkloof] he looked very, very angry,” Nkoana-Mashabane confirmed.

You would however cut down on (wholesale) theft.

Sad to imagine that the Guptas could have been shut down in 2011, saving the country untold grief and billions:

Wasn't Mo one of Zuma's buddies? I am not sure if I should believe him. It seems that some people are singing anti-zupta tune in an effort to garner public sympathy.

It appears they fell out. Him and his brothers were in the Zuma inner circle at some point which is why Zuma appointment him to SSA.

There were many opportunities around that time to shut the whole thing down, but they never saw the light of day.

ah ok. Well, if Mo has evidence to back it up, then all good. Any dirt on zuptas is welcome. I really thought Mo ran away to australia but maybe it was chippy.
